Would it be possible to have a homegrown fast food place in the US and offer neither Pepsi nor Coca Cola products or would you just go out of business?

I grew up in an upper middle class suburb. This place was good but definitely not worth the prices since you could drive another mile to the other hotdog stand and get everything for 40% less

There's a taco place by me that only serves organic 'made with real sugar sodas.' They are literally $5 a bottle, more expensive than the (hipster craft) beer they also sell.

Depends on where you're located. Gotta have fountain soda in the South. Less of a requirement in the rest of the country, but still a popular item,.

>cheap tiles, Pepsi-ad menu board
So they started before 1990 on a budget. They've had time to learn how to get the most bang for their buck, and they've moved along with the times, maintaining what they have instead of pointlessly upgrading (they're not charging you deli prices, however, unless they function as a deli as well). People don't go there for the decor.

>Coke glasses and machine
I'm not sure how true it is everywhere, but Coke started doing free maintenance here in an attempt to shut Pepsi down. Most restaurants and fast food chains around here have gone with Coke - if they don't offer a choice between the two - because of this.

>Cheap fry/sandwich baskets, probably with checkerboard-edged wax paper inserts
They should be going with plates if they're a sit-down restaurant, but if they cater to a school-going crowd at lunch, these things don't break when dropped, and they're cheap - like the budgie.

>Family owned
They're making enough money to support their family. The place like this in the shithole town I grew up in made enough to buy a large house in town, put two kids through medical school, and buy the third one his own house. They all drive new cars, so they're doing better than 90% of the town, all on german/pub/diner food, milkshakes and beer.
