Yeah that's kind of dumb, and so is saying fruit is bad for you. I wonder if it's a kind of denial thing, because nobody who switched to the keto diet first became overweight by eating too much fruit, so it's easier to blame all carbs instead of their own overeating.

>> No.11719504

i dont think anyone is saying fruit is bad for you, just that its bad for keto. i eat keto and ill eat some berries occasionally but i stay away from super high sugar fruits like mango or pineapple. no one is saying they are unhealthy just not good for this diet.

the fiber slows down the rate of absorption so it's not a massive spike.

>> No.11719922

>>11719770
I don't think the problem with HFCS is that it's half fructose but that it's added to so many things in large quantities. There's other stuff in fruit aside from sugar anyway, so it's not a good comparison. It's a lot harder to overeat on fruit compared to drinking too much soda.

>> No.11719923

>>11719872
A) That isnt the problem with fructose. Maybe you were responding to the wrong post ?
B) slowing the absorption rate lowers the height of the spike, but lengthens its duration, which is worse. One reason the asians used to have such low diabetes rates despite a high-rice diet is they ate a low-fiber low-protein low-fat diet - all of these combined with carbs will slow absorption of the carbs and flatten out the blood sugar spike. And when they became wealthier and could afford these dietary niceties their diabetes rates skyrocketed. China has a higher per-capita rate of diabetes than even the US, they passed the US in 2012 or so.

Because it is and he's just pulling stuff out of his ass now. Fruit will give slow and steady energy while a soda will make you crash within an hour. Saying a soda is better than fruit with the same amount of sugar goes against pretty much every study and consensus done on fruit and sugar.

Fiber slows the absorption of sugars. So does protein and fat, oddly enough. A fast spike allows a fast response, insulin spikes, sugar drops, insulin drops, hours go by, next meal it repeats. With a slower absorption the sugar spike and resulting insulin spike are lower, but last longer, so your insulin doesnt have time to drop before you eat your next meal. Because it's always elevated, your body starts becoming resistant to it. Yes it sounds backward, but it's because the lengthening the duration of low insulin/low sugar periods are more important than reducing the amplitude of high sugar/insulin spikes. Google "insulin index" for some eye-opening research from the last decade. 200kcal of beans caused 1/3 the insulin response over a 4 hr period as 160kcal beans+40kcal fat, even though 40kcal of fat consumed by itself has essentially 0 insulin response.

Doesn't this comparison assume that calories are consumed at regular and even intervals? Wouldn't the person who had the stronger insulin spike be then prompted by hunger to eat or snack again, sooner? And the other person, later?

>> No.11720101

>>11719795
What's your usual diet look like? Why don't you feel like shit

>> No.11720108

>>11720051
Not really. But eating three meals per day is close enough to "regular even intervals" to cause problems, more so if you have a snack before bed. You can eat a carby fatty meal and as long as you wait long enough before your next meal for your insulin to drop and stay down for awhile, you'll be fine.
>prompted by hunger to eat or snack again, sooner
Possibly. Though hunger isnt as simple as that, it's a hormonal sensation, and there are hundreds of hunger/satiety hormones that are made in different circumstances. Some of them purely mental and so subject to pavlovian conditioning, if you eat lunch at noon every day you'll soon feel hungry at noon every day, regardless of your blood sugar or whether you've had a snickers at 11am.

Not strictly keto-related, but this seems like the best thread to ask:
I'm lazy and won't cook if I have leftovers. Often I won't even bother heating the leftovers, and will just stand over my counter eating sliced ham or something from a container. However, I frequently do not have enough leftover vegetables to match with my leftover proteins, and I feel like I should be eating more vegetables.
What are some very quick/easy vegetable dishes with which I could supplement the meats? Obviously I could just eat handfuls of raw broccoli/spinach/etc with it, but I'd prefer something a little more composed if possible.

That's basically appealing to tradition. PS: "I'm using up eggs for nothing" is much more (figuratively) "dangerous" (it's actually possible producing more eggs) to fertility than BF-%s and proper hormone amounts (particularly evidenced in that milk prevalently produced ovulations near in timing across women).

There are stark contrasts between "anorexic" and muscular 5%-BF. It's huge for female testosterone, which is associated with hugely great sensations, libido, and orgasm.
