Alright, /ck/. Your task is to absolutely impress someone(foreign dignitaries, alien emperor, your grandma, your gf/bf, etc.) with your best dish. What are you making for them?

This or my chili,

>> No.11645728

the problem is the most interesting stuff might not be the more downhome cooking I might do but rather something a little more novel. With that in mind I think I would prefer things to be quite bright and pop a little even if it isn't super classy.

Start with a purple potato and purple cauliflower soup. Then a salad with goat cheese and pomegranate seeds. Then I would serve honey coated roast winter squash and salmon en papillote. For dessert some kind of Brandy Baked Pears with vanilla ice cream.

If you ask me again next week, I would probably have a different answer.

Pasta 'bolognese'. It's rather humble but makes sense because my repertoire is anything save for exhaustive.

Beef Wellington and a great bottle of red Bordeaux.

Cuban refried pork roast with black beans and rice.

Butter frying the pork can help mitigate the sometime extreme citrus flavour from and OJ brine and I would literally eat my black beans out of a shoe.

Honestly depends on what's in season since about 95% of my cooking is just improv based on what the market provides.

If I'm cooking for my mum then either beef stew with dumplings or pork cheek sugo and pasta, both favorites from home we used to cook together. If it's my grandma, steak, because that's 100% her favorite food. If it's a girl I'm trying to impress, probably make some pasta dough and do homemade tortellini or something together, it's always fun. Also wine.

Alien emperor i would serve some form of high velocity explosive because aliens can just fuck right off.

Start with antipasto salad, adding in red-wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil for the vinaigrette
Some garlic bread with a side of olive oil.
Next comes the never ending pasta dish paired with a bottle of cabernet sauvignon
Finally a trio of cannoli to end the supper on a high note.

I'd ask them in advance if they have any eating restrictions or allergies and then ask them how they like their steak cooked. If they don't care, then I'd buy a pair of nice porterhouses then season and butter them up and grill them medium to medium rare. I'd make my infamous creamy garlic mashed potatoes and a side salad with a few bottles of red wine to go with it.

Ain't never met a single person who turned up their nose to a big juicy steak. May even get stupid and butter-fry some mushrooms and onions as an optional condiment to pour over the steak.
