I have. I choose not to. I'm the guy what got my brewery to go with a scotch and cognac barrels over bourbon and rum, and we're up enough that I can afford scotch and cognac for Christmas presents this year... so... I dunno man. If your bottle of the Grouse looks good enough, I'd say fuck it.

Thanks.

national version of "English" for the most part.

I think here in Canada, that we go with Whiskey for everything that isn't American - which usually becomes Bourbon, or Whisky.

Actually, Scotland has the only designation to officially call it "whisky." All else is considered "whisk(e)y." You cannot, by law, distill a whiskey product in the United States and sell it as a "whisky" on the label.

He didn't ask for the best scotch, he asked what would be the best scotch if he was mixing with soda, which is a completely valid question. It's just like asking which gin to buy for a gin and tonic, you don't want to buy something really expensive with flavors that will be lost when mixed, but at the same time you don't want to buy something that tastes like total garbage either.

Is it worth trying Grouse again if I'm already a regular scotch drinker?
It was my first whiskey and I had no taste for it at the time, and I've been meaning to go back to it since I've tried something like 30 whiskies since then, but I don't want to blow $30 on a bottle if I'll just think it's garbage.

>> No.11639243

It's just regional spelling. Some places have laws about whether or not you use the e. It doesn't really matter, since it'll have where it came from printed on the label anyway.

I've tried Famous Grouse standard/mellow gold/smokey black. I've tried Grants standard/ale cask/sherry cask. I've had standard Whyte & Mackay, Black Bottle, Ballantines, Bells, JWred/JWblack etc.

All big brand supermarket available NAS blends are much of a muchness tbqh with varying degrees of sweetness & orangeness.
I have drunk them & can drink them, but would rather have a single malt.

Blended is better in theory but single malt is better in practice, because blended usually means 'mix a bit of expensive good stuff with a lot of cheap shit'
