They do, as a snack food. Look up fried chapulines. Really want to try some one day. They supposedly taste like salty, garlicky chips.

I ate dry-fried crickets once. Plain ones have a slight fishy taste, the flavored ones tasted like the various spices, with a hint of prawn.

The biggest problem with them is the legs getting stuck in the throat. Nothing real offensive on the taste.

>> No.11634490

Yes, it's common in central and south Mexico.
We also eat ant eggs. Aztecs used to eat mosquito eggs but those are not common in modern Mexico.

I've seen them cook each other alive

They have them out for free at bars in Tijuana to get people thirsty so they drink more. But I don't think it's some huge common thing that Mexicans eat at home.

Most Mexicans I've interviewed say they do not like these and that it's only those Mexicans down south that like them.

Can confirm, in the North you can only find them on gourmet restaurant or vanguard restaurants, the average Norteño does not eat them.

Make your own seperate post too
I'm interested

Norteños love that shit. They are uncivilised apes. Based Sureños do not.

>> No.11634950

>>11634871
Already bought them, but I also heard of ants (I ignore what the sureño-speak word is for them), I want them since I have not had them even at restaurants.
There are also worms but I do not like the taste

Will upload a pic after I get my ants and find a nice background, for the time being AMA

I suspected as much, because the only ones who ate them at the bars were tourists.

Completely forgot about the ants, bought large and small, both al mojo de ajo (garlic)

The only good thing about being next to the US is the influx of stupid gringos ready to trow their money at everything

>>11635868
They are really good, plus since it attacks corn it is a win-win, maybe that’s why people started eating locusts, if they ate my crops I would want to eat them

>>11635942
Al mojo de ajo, specially the big ones are very good, they do have a flavor but not as strong as worms. The smaller ones get lost on preparations so they hand out texture and flavor but are never the star of the dish

Why aren't you anon's eating triffids?

>> No.11637622

>>11634321
not really. I think you could compare it to something like chitlings in the US, only eaten by a subset and not particularly enjoyed by anyone except maybe abuelas in Oaxaca
