Okay retards. Here's a fool-proof way to season your cast iron pans.
>Make sure it's clean
>Put it on the stovetop
>Highest heat you have
>Let it get hot
>Put on a glove or use a hot pad to pick it up
>Add 1 Tbsp veg oil. No more, no less.
>Smear on all sides with paper towel, including outside and handle
>Put back on heat for 2 mins
>Flip over and heat upside down for 1 min.
>Turn off heat. Let cool
You're welcome

This is what happens when you don't preheat on medium low heat or don't preheat at all. You need a somewhat even temperature of around 375-400°F which is coincidentally the point at which the Leidenfrost effect occurs.

You can actually tell when you reach this temperature by sprinkling water droplets on the surface of your pan.

A.) Droplets bubble: nowhere near ready.

B.) Droplets sizzle and evaporate in seconds: almost.

C.) Droplets skid along the surface but don't evaporate: pan is properly preheated and ready to accept oil/butter

D.) Droplets explode into even smaller droplets: too hot, turn dow the heat satan

The reason you DON'T want to use high heat to preheat is because it will create nasty 500F° hotspots that will burn your food on contact and 300F° cold spots that will bite and hold onto food thereby creating a stuck on burnt mess.

I'll post a video shortly of the Leidenfrost effect, it's really cool when you think about it. Basically a little vapor cloud is formed under the water droplet that makes it float.

Homemade. I honestly can't stand the frozen premade ones, they always leave this revolting chemical aftertaste in my mouth. Making them is somewhat of a chore though, I usually make a batch of 30 tortillas on the weekend, freeze them, and reheat them during the week as needed. Takes about 2 hours.
