Back on the topic of self checkouts, I fucking HATE working them but as always I'm best at it so get a shift or so a week doing it. Everytime I take the time to explain to customers how to work with the scale in the bagging area they're like, "no one ever told me before!"

unless you're in: the Middle East (especially UAE, Qatar) or (less so, but still) Spain, then finance is absolutely dreadful.

If you're not "on the beach" (which is 98% of the time) then the best working hours you will have is 9-7pm, after which you are still expected to be on-call. However, having a 9-7 workday would be incredibly lucky: more likely it will be 9-9pm, or even 11 or 12. This goes for most of the finance world, and especially the big names (Blackrock, Mckinsey, JP morgan, Goldman, etc)

You see, he's probably an Ameritard, where family life and culture doesn't integrate well into the late-capitalist society at large. If you're going into a booze shop, (in American) it's assumed that you're getting shitfaced with cheap booze or you're an alcoholic, and that the booze shop is located near a gas station, and it's run by brown people who barely speak your language. It's just a venue to exchange money for alcohol, nothing more.
He can't even imagine that there are wine and liquor stores that are family-friendly, with cozy interiors and smiley vendors, located just on Main street, a few blocks away from your kid's kindergarten. And they don't carry fireball.

Cheap produce and cheap general merchandise is cheaper at hypermarket chains like Wall-mart, too.

I'd much rather pay a bit more so that my money, and the monies of people around me, circulate among people like me, who live near me, as opposed to getting sucked up and hoarded by billionaires, never to get re-inserted into the economy again. It's a way of organizing society, not really a value-judgment I'm making about an individual's spending habits. It's not that you're doing a bad thing for going to Wall-Mart, and I'm so good and mighty for buying locally. Cheaper prices ensures that consumers will spend their money there, I have no doubt about that.
It's more about how and where the money circulates. An economy is always healthier if the the money circulates among the masses, (from which that money usually comes) but with big corporations like Wall-Mart, most of the money that leaves your local community does not come back. The wages and benefits are absolutely abysmal, prices are kept extremely low to drive out competition from any local retailer, and they usually hire very few people, in comparison to the stores that it forces out of business. Being able to purchase material goods at cheaper prices isn't really a relevant issue today, but income inequality, and the abundance of wealth concentrated among very few people, and the death of Main street, and the economic immobility felt by the dwindling middle classes of the world, etc. etc. - that's all still majorly relevant in the 21st century.

Close, but not really. To be honest it's not really "awful," and the bosses aren't exactly "terrible." Your clients are mostly not terrible either. (Altho terrible bosses and clients do exist, but it's not like you're in retail and you're dealing with an angry fat mom for why her expired coupons don't work)
It's just the grind that grinds you down really. You become a machine at what you do, and you become proud of that, but you also realize that even if you got better at modeling, that wouldn't make you successful. You have to read a lot of books. And you definitely have to be reading 1.general financial news 2.financial news specific to your sector 3.financial news specific to the strategy. Everyday - no exceptions. And you also realize you have to build a wide network of people, with diverse backgrounds (all pertaining to business though) which is a lot easier if you're rich.

It's just a lot, and it's a lot every single day. It's a lot of money too that I'm saving, but I've given up hopes of becoming a successful businessman. It's your whole life, it's just not worth

I've met plenty of cashiers and wagetresses that have been at their job for at least a year, and they are still whiny losers. I don't think your plan would have the result you desire.

Military service would be better, it would teach them just how pathetically easy it is to be a cashier, and illuminate them to why people look down at it. But when cashiering is the hardest job you ever done, you think it's the hardest job.

>WHAT DO YOU MEAN I NEED A RECEIPT TO MAKE A RETURN
Most stores don't require it these days.
The major stores in my area (Kroger, Walmart, Safeway) can look up the purchase on the card you used, or can do a return for store credit.

They can also cross-check when the item you're trying to return was last purchased from that store. (Oh, this thing you're trying to return? Well the last time one was sold here was 6 months ago and the return period is 3 months maximum, so.. maybe you got it at a different store?)

I have heard that one probably a thousand times when I was younger and worked retail.
Something I've noticed when I go shopping now; the kid at the register doesn't know what to do if I give them change so I can have more even money back.
I.e. if the price of something is 17 bucks I might give them a 20 and two 1s because I want a fiver back. They just leave the ones in the cointray and look at me like I'm a fucking idiot. I hate this.

People with generators make these all the time so that they can connect the generator to a dryer receptacle and back-feed the house. This is how people die from either electrocution, carbon monoxide poisoning (running the generator in the garage), or smoke inhalation from burning down the fucking house. Also, backfeeding is dangerous to the utility workers.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

You're new here, aren't you?
Also, I had no idea the Land of the Free had a law like that. Even in Denmark you can return unopened wine from parties. It's pretty common to make an agreement about it with the store so you can buy plenty and not risk running out.

That's how to do it in the US, if you're not a complete maroon. When I dabbled in catering, I'd put a deposit down for 110% of what I conservatively thought I'd use, with the agreement that I could return up to 20% of what I bought. It's about a 45-second conversation with the owner/manager of the shop. Of course, I was spending about $10K/month with the same shop, just for the business.

>uhhh I guess in the row over?
>keeps elaborating on her questions
>I think she's just really lost and try to answer as best I can
>it dawns on her the guy in a hoodie pushing his groceries around is not an employee
>she becomes embarrassed, apologizes and scurries away
Was kind of funny but I felt bad for her. That aside I love when old people stop me because they need help to get something high up shelves and thank me profusely afterwards, feels good.

Got a box of Cola for free a few months ago. Had it stored under the cart and one box of mixed soft drinks in the cart. Put one bottle of each on the conveyor, cola first. Cashier scans the cola, 'one box?'. I assumed one box of cola, she thought one box in total.

Work at a Walgreens liquor department
I am the only certified liquor salesman
Store manager does not want to pay anyone else to work in my department
I start at noon, open gate/door, we have a separate store entrance, at 12:15
Always a line waiting, people always pissed, screaming, law says liquor is to be open at 8am
No it say we Can open at 8, we don't Have too
We close the department at 10pm, I leave at 11pm
People banging on the door screaming
Law says sales until 1am, you are illegal, open up, I will sue
No it say we Can sell until 1am, we don't Have too
Liquor is closed Sunday and Monday, my days off
People try to force gates open, screaming
We have an Albertsons and a Smith's across the street and a Neighborhood Walmart across the parking lot, they all sell all day, all week

Old guys always talk about Bait and Switch
"Do you have any in the "Back""
Dude there is no back, why would I hide stuff I want/have to sell
Tell me how this liquor used to sell for less "back in the '60's", now it's a tip off
Divorced middle aged women who buy a bottle of Chardonnay everyday and ask me how I can deal being around "drunks" all day
Guy in a robe and fuzzy slippers every Saturday morning, oxygen tank in tow, buys 12, 30 packs of Milwaukee's Best Premium, always has the exact change, teeth are brown pegs, has MBP logo tattoos on both shoulders
Woman who was in a car crash, DUI, she is a school guidance counselor, neck is fused 45° to the right, is missing right eye and right arm, buys a 6 pack of Sapporo every day at 4:30 pm, 6 Johnny Walker Black minis and a pack of Camel Reds, she is also missing her right tit and drags her right leg like a movie mummy
70 year old German woman, brown beat up Mercedes, 1pm on the dot, 750ml of Christian Bros Brandy, pays with change, dirty filthy change, I wash it in the photo lab sink, she smells, finger nails have brown stuff caked on them, she cries and tells me I am he only friend
Love my job

Imagine demanding a product/service be available then making fun of the people who make it available to you.
