Does anyone in real life actually feel distress over eating at a restaurant alone? I don't get it. Nobody's going to notice or care about you either way. And even if that weren't true why would you care about strangers thinking to themselves that you're weird for eating alone? That said I haven't eaten at restaurants in many years now, have just been ordering delivery instead. It's not really enjoyable to eat a meal without the relaxation and comfort of either being in my apartment or being in a hotel room. You usually can't smoke anymore at a restaurant today, and aside from the lack of smoking you also don't get to eat food while relaxing naked on your toilet (which is the ideal way to eat since eating triggers that gastrocolic reflex, and if you eat at a restaurant or somewhere else instead you'll end up having to hold in your shit in an uncomfortable way until you walk to a restroom).

It depends on the restaurant and the circumstances. Sitting down for a lunch break from your 6 figure job? No problem. Going by yourself to some cheap fast-food place? Nobody cares. But if you decide to eat alone at a fancy restaurant for dinner then you are entering the food faux pas zone.
