/whisky/ drinkers I need your help

I've been trying to troubleshoot why sometimes I can enjoy whisky and other times I don't find it good.

I woke up and before eating or drinking anything I poured myself a little Macallan 12. It smelled sweet and pleasant and was enjoyable to drink. After eating a turkey bacon avacado sandwich from a shop, I tried the same whisky but the smell was harsh and tasted unpleasant.

Could there be another factor that is causing things to not taste right or is it simply what I'm eating?
