It's okay. You can admit it. Beer sucks. You, like so many other men at some point in your life decided to see what the big fuss was. You took your first sip of that watery, bitter, amber liquid and recoiled in disgust. "but I'm a man," you think, "and men are SUPPOSED to like beer. It's the natural order of things." So you kept drinking. You drank until your tastebuds became numb to its yeasty bite. "Aha!" you proclaimed in your secured masculinity. " Looks like I finally acquired a taste for beer!"

Yet still, upon every night out on the town, as your female company orders their grape juice and tequila infused slushies, you look upon them with wistful envy. "I'll take a beer." you say to the bartender, a sadness behind your eyes. Because men drink beer. It's the natural order of things. And you are a man, aren't you?

Enjoying a flight and a dog at Green Cheek Beer Co. in Orange. Pilsner, Blonde Ale, "SOMA style IPA" and West Coast IPA from 1 to 4. While 1-3 are all decent for their category, I probably won't come back to have them again. Taking home a crowler of no. 4 / West Coast IPA is Dead for sure. NE IPA Party Pack is still on draft and probably the brewery's best after WCIPAiD.

Well as a byproduct of being imperial, such beers are more expensive to produce and therefore cost more. Generally this leads most breweries to not release them in 6 packs because people are more willing to spend $12 on a 4 pack or bomber than $18 on a 6 pack. Bells is an exception to this, I am sure there are others but its not a common format
I agree that bombers suck though, all retail bombers should be replaced with 4 packs

it's an iffy line that's been redefined a few times.

There's no real hard difference and a lot of grey area between, but porters tend to be slightly lighter in body and colour.

Guinness, as clear as it is, definitely has a red shine to it - because of this, it's probably on the lighter side of what an Irish stout should be. It's also heavily filtered through isinglass.

Porters, in comparison, can be a dark brown to an opaque black, but if they're on the darker side, they'll tend to be a little lighter in body - all the colour of a stout with the weight of a brown ale.

I'm feeling toasty amber of the three, but I also just got beaten to death with some over-done, dry-hopped, cleverly named IPA nonsense.

Galaxy plays really nicely with IPAs, and it's possible to get more flavour than bitterness out of it, while still falling within brewers' association guidelines - basically everything's within the last 10 mins, with a little bit at 30 mins or so to round out the IBUs. A "Classic English IPA" can be as low as 20 IBU, or basically as bitter as an American Pilsner.

It's such a wide style... you can get away with jusy about anything with a Belgian/Bavarian yeast profile and a sightly warm fermentation... Some are quite smooth and almost dry, others (my favourite) are complex with an almost strawberry note between the hop and yeast blends (the closest I got was 50/50 noble hop/English with a Belgian "banana" yeast). Still others have almost a bile like flavour because they're way over temp. I was really disappointed with a Tout le Monde because of this.

As for things that strike me as advanced lagers, I can dig me a good "Steam" beer (even Anchor) - basically a lager put through a rigorous ale workout, or well-played kolsches that bring out a bit of the estery notes, but play them right into the hops and grain, like a plum pilsner or something.

"Fresh"... ... ... not that it really bothers me, aside from people who come to my house expecting to be able to just siphon some out of a carboy. It's a lager. It needs time. There comes a point of diminishing returns, but with lighter malts and lower hop additions, there's really less to go wrong (oxidation and UV degredation). He served each with a shot glass of a pear liqueur he made out of a white-whiskey test batch. It was good with the pear, but didn't really need it.

I forget the Gose's I've had that were good, but they're light on the brettanomyces. A little tang, and a little coriander, not the gym-socks and lysol I've had lately.

>> No.11514771

>>11514553
IPA goes with bold or spicy flavors as the bitterness will clash with more subtle and savory flavors. IPA's demand acidity and spice and other intense flavors. For Turkey day I recommend Ambers and non imperial Brown's. Both are a bit maltier than your usual lager and pilsner beers, but you also want something smooth with a low abv so you can drink while conversing and not get drunk. The flavors best deal with the mellower savory flavors of roast Turkey, potatoes, gravy, and stuffing.
