Who even says this?

I live in New England and pay $0.99/lb for chicken, $0.39/lb for turkey, and $5-$10/lb for beef depending on the cut. How much does it cost in the midwest?

indiana here
Funny how the berkshire breeders non-profit organization is a 30 minute drive from me.
In an attempt to save this shit thread can we discuss our favorite tasty heritage swine?

Everywhere else has that kinda shit too, but we get it more often because 90% of our land isn't devoted towards crowded cow cages. Your local favorites probably just get the runoff factory meat and sell it to you as if it's special. Feel like if your meat was better you'd be known for more than just betty crocker casseroles.

>coasties are this stupid

I have a few local farms between one to ten miles out where I can visit the farm animals before they hit my plate. I can visit my relatives and eat from their fresh grown gardens and cook with their fresh laid eggs. During hunting season, one of the local butchers here get sold specialty meats from deer that I can walk in and buy. True rural midwest life is cheap, free, quiet, and with little rules, and with Amazon and the ability to pay for high-speed Internet, I have everything I ever want.

Have you stupid coasties never gotten drunk off your ass, driven a four-wheeler at top speeds with your cousin before coming home after dark, settling down at the dinner table, and eating a freshly roasted chicken you were petting only ten hours before?

>> No.11447313

Reminder that world powers and economies of scale are built on the backs of people who are essentially human cattle. Enjoy your factory farmed meat and your factory farmed everything.

Is that a midwest euphemism for sex?

Yeah I do that shit in the city too.

>> No.11447346

No, it's what you do when you're in a rural area. We would just drive aimlessly for miles and miles, pick up friends on the way and drop them off, and fuck around in the fields, forests, or the strange old houses we'd find, whatever we would stumble upon. There were no rules and no parents nagging you, and due to the shitty service, no one could call you. You were 100% free to do whatever you wanted.

I swear, looking back on it, RPGs are made to capture the feeling that rural life actually gives you.

>>11447324
You get to see the actual animals you eat hours later for cheap, or even for free? Really? Where in the city do you live that you have access to livestock intended for consumption?

but you did have sex with your cousin, right?

Theres a few butcher shops with live chickens and other stuff you can buy here. Nothing super big like cows, at least that I know of. Theres at least one shop like 6 blocks from me.

>> No.11447375

That's pretty neat, but out here, I know quite a few cow farmers that only own about fifteen to twenty cattle. You really get the freshest meat and produce. The corn and apples are fucking divine.

>> No.11447388

>>11447375
We used to have that here but that was the old days. My dad used to remember cows out in the street and shit by the meat packing district.
I suppose it was a space and money thing. There still farms and stuff like an hour or so out of the city. A ton of farmers are here for the farmers markets so we don't miss out on fresh stuff.
I'd still like to get some land away from here in the country side though it sounds lovely.

It really is. I'm going to likely have to live in a city, or close to one, for my job when I graduate. It's funny, but I always wanted to escape rural life. Now, as the time is drawing for me to leave, I'm starting to learn how much I appreciate it and what I'll be leaving behind. It kind of blows.

Living in the city isnt bad
I know this place hates the city because of reasons but I love it too. As long as you can always go back and visit it'll be ok.

>> No.11447441

>>11447408
That's the problem. My family is moving from the area within the next year to Arizona, and the best places for me are not in my state. I'm probably never going to come back to it unless I'm visiting extended family. It'll just never be the same, you know?

You can always tell the nu-male hipster soyboys by how much they pride themselves on buying their meat from "the small ranch in the countryside."
Any legit country boy knows that the guy running that ranch and everyone working there are absolute retards.

Yeah I sort of understand. Good things aren't meant to last forever. But at least you'll have the memories. Thats what keeps me going.

Thanks man. I'm trying to make new memories, succeed in life with my part-time job and good grades, keep loving my new girl, but no matter how good my life is right now, it doesn't make the nights any easier to get through. I've got a lot of dreams, but owning a second home somewhere on a lake in the countryside in my home state to serve as a vacation home is quickly growing to the top.

I kind of needed this. Thanks m8. Good luck on getting your own rural slice of heaven one day.
