It's not the greatest picture but it was one of the first ones with some variety that came up on google. It's just a variety of chef's choice sashimi arranged over a bowl of sushi rice. I like it because of the variety and how you can eat it any way you like. At most places it costs around the same as two rolls, so unless you're sharing with a group of people it's usually a much better option to try a bunch of different things.

It's widely accepted outside of Japan that "sushi" refers to all foods made with sushi rice, including but not limited to maki, nigiri, chirashi, and even sashimi gets thrown in despite not having rice.

It looks like shit, anon, literal shit.
It's really sloppy and unrefined with beginner mistakes in knife skills, uneven and broken bits of fish slapped onto a formless blob of rice.
I r8 3/8 would think just from looking that it was poor quality. Ffs I can see the massive amounts of wasabi dribbling out from under the fish and staining the rice.

Once again there is sushi thread on /ck/ and once again I feel that urge. That urge that has coarsed through my blood and the blood of my ancestors long passed. Above all other rolls, the King of rolls. The Godzilla Roll.
Perhaps you thought sushi could only have wonderful flavor and texture. That the beginning and the end of this journey through culture could only ever be context-less but you where wrong. The Godzilla roll shows the world what amazing food is. It is not only a filling meal, made with the best of ingredients and most dedicated of cooking styles. It is a story.

The story of the Godzilla roll is at first glance a simple one. A mere reference to the famous film franchise you think? Ah but how wrong you are, for the story this impressive and domineering sushi roll tells is one of power, of loss, and domination. For the story this roll tells to make sense we need context. I am sure you have all heard of the major events of WW2. How in an effort to end the conflict as soon as possible the American nation of the United states used its greatest weapon against the Japanese. In fact it had to use this weapon twice, and on civilian cities no less. The impact of this devastating attack ended the war much earlier then anticipated and left a cultural blow on the Japanese people deeper then any but them could understand. The following decades being shaped by that event and its implications.

With this in mind the story of Godzilla, the king of monsters is easy to understand. A film about the destructive power of nature and of the weapons we now wield as a species. All framed in front of the loss the Japanese suffered. So now, what of the sushi roll named after these events?

What we have here gentleman, is a sushi roll, the iconic Japanese dish (city), deep fried (destroyed) and sold to hungry Americans (innocent) in exchange for US dollars (irony). If this is not the height of poetic storytelling in cooking, im not sure what is.

I knew what I was doing, longer posts on /ck/ get an inverse number of replies. This board thrives on the short posting format for a number of reasons but that shouldnt mean I should conform. I dont do it for the replies, I do it because I know it to be right in my heart. To express how I truly feel whether someone chooses to respond to that feeling or not is secondary.

Sushi is one of the most NPC foods. One only eats it for social status signaling.

I have only exclusively eaten sushi at home so I don't understand your point

Sushi is just good dude

On my birthday I don't even buy cake. I just buy a big party tray of sushi and eat that shit in the nude until I feel regret

enjoy starving when the deep ocean civilization rises to wage war on us landlubbers, and all of humanities food sources run scarce and we have to resort to eating the bodies of sea people

Acquired taste and its quality varies a lot depending on how fresh it is. The texture is universally odd: runny and a little slimy that sort of gushes. The taste should be pretty pure, delicate, briny, and sweet. I like it. Bad uni doesn't taste so good.

Most (reputable) places away from the coast only serve uni on specific days, or order extremely limited amounts. You can still get good uni, just call ahead and ask what day(s) they have it. If they say always, don't go there.
