I just sent my girlfriend out to get all of the ingredients for Chicago dogs. We are planning on having them for dinner tonight. I have never had one. In the opinion of /ck/, have I made a mistake? Or could they be these best hot dog combination ever created?

Fuck you man... just fuck you.

Oh, how insensitive of me. I shouldn't have just assumed you were a man because you said you have a girlfriend. Maybe you too identify as a woman.

I have an idea for you, identify as a bee and buzz off. Also, dont have kids.

I lived in Chicagoland for a couple years and their hotdogs are unironically the best thing they do, and also the best established style of hotdog I've ever had. That said, if you've never had one you obviously don't live in the area, so wont be able to find the sport peppers and atomic relish, even if you have Vienna Beef in your area and can find a poppy seed bun. If you can't get all the ingredients there really isn't a point, as it wont be the thing that everyone talks about.

Chicago dogs are one of those things where some drunk guy just threw a bunch of things on a hot dog. There's no real cooking involved, no plan to create something that is beyond the sum of it's parts. Even if you've never had one you can look at OP's pic and know what it's like. Then just shrug and forget about it and go have something actually decent.

They look like they're pretty good, and I wanted to try mine like that. I eat mine pretty close to Chicago style.

Nathan's beef. Potato roll. Diced raw onion, relish, mustard, habanero hot sauce.

I tried tomatoes on it once, but I didn't like it. I might have cut them too thick. I don't know what a "sports pepper" is, but I'll look it up then.

>> No.11415989

They're actually based af. The thing is you only want 1 maybe 2 Chicago style because the ingredients get to be too much. If at home 1 or 2 Chicago style and if you eat more you'll want to eat them with just mustard or something. When in Chicago my wife and me will both get a Chicago dog and then split an Italian beef.

It's sour, sweet, salty, spicy, and savory, along with the slight hint of the poppy seeds too. If you like hot dogs, this is the best way to eat one.

Make sure you get real neon green relish, this is of utmost importance. Don't forget the celery salt, cucumber (not pickle), and sport peppers. And no fucking sugar tomato sauce

>cucumber (not pickle)

Wait, are you serious? WHAT THE FUCK. Now I really don't get Chicago Dogs, who wants a giant slab of crunchy water next to their meat tube? At least I understand the pickle X meat love affair

>> No.11416748

>>11416368

For me, the pickle is better than the cucumber. The relish has a pickl-y taste to it (because it's made from pickles), but assuming you're using the neon green stuff, it's a lot sweeter than the average pickle. The pickle's flavor is important for balancing out the hotness of the sport peppers, so while cucumbers probably accomplish a similar goal, they don't do it as effectively or as tastily to be frank with you. You will be 100% correct and justified in using a pickle, and probably better off as a result.
t. real chicago hotdog flyover faggot

Dumb as shit. I've made them several times with the hopes that I'd like it more, but this was all in vain. The ingredients all seek to overpower each other and it's just a flavor and textural mess. There might as well not even be a hotdog in there with all the shit piled on top.

>> No.11419966

Chicago dogs are fucking taste. I was on a big kick a couple months ago

>> No.11420384

OP here. After a day or two of thought after having reflected on my Chicago dog experience, I have to admit that they aren’t for me. It just became a bit of a watery mess. Some of the topping fell out, and I ended up just getting a bit frustrated. Our buns were standard sized, so we may have gone wrong there. I would think you would need a jumbo bun for all that stuff. It also frustrated me a bit that I couldn’t get an even bite with all the topping working together. One bite I would get meat and a random hot pepper, the other bite I would get a huge slice of tomatoe. For me... I’ll just stick with mustard and diced onion with a hot pepper on the side.
