why do people pretend veganism is better for the environment?

Even if a post-Christian society, a good deal of status is conferred by virtue. Hence, virtue signalling is how the desperate claw upward for status. Hence, veganism.

Rich white upper middle class kids need a way to show their "moral superiority" over the poor minorities and those in poverty.

It's what it essentially boils down to. "look at me, I'm better than 'them'."

Because it is? The amount of land and water needed to produce one pound of beef is huge compared to the amount needed to produce one pound of soybeans.

there is no rational way to argue that factory farming is a net gain
hell, germany produces so much manure that they need to store it/dry it because the soil can only take so much
still, in some areas cattle is a gain for the land. pasture needs a symbiosis with a grazing animal and because most natural predators are offed by now, we can harvest those animals. winwin

Meat tastes really good and it makes humanity much happier overall.

I eat exotic fruit and fresh shit shipped/flown in now already while eating meat. If I were to go vegan I'd mostly eat more cheap bulk veg, starch, lentils etc to make up the difference. Maybe some gluten, soy, pea or sunflower protein ... but those are all highly efficient crops grown close to home. It's pretty much a certainty I'd have a lower ecological foot print if I went vegan.

We have next to no range feeding in western Europe ... the land impact of meat production is inevitable.

This. If they actually cared about animal lives, they'd stop wearing cotton, stop driving, stop eating mass farmed vegetables, etc etc.

$2bn wasted food in Australia each year. Creates a lot of green house gasses, too.

Vegans should all kill them selves. That would teach meat eaters, what with all the extra green house gasses.

But humanity worked and did things since time immemorial to become happy. The pursuit of happiness is the most basic of activities and happiness is the most basic and essential need of a human being. Happiness is a legitimate resource and it is a measurable thing. Unhappy people don't live productive lives.

You are just a robot vegan out of touch from the reason why people eat meat.

The amount of calories and protein in one pound of meat is huge compared one pound of soybeans. Stop eating food by the pound glutton. Also cattle are raised on open range land most of their life and open range land is a naturally sustainable biological zone unlike intensive row crop fields.

Also there is a reason why happiness (and how to increase it) is one of the most studied field in psychology. Corporations and governments all find happiness as a valuable resource that affects productivity and worker efficiency (also happiness is a pretty good and fulfilling thing to have personally).

Vegans are no different from old Christian self-flagellating ascetics. They are not happy in what they do but they believe that self denial of a common source of happiness will do better for the world. Good for you, I guess.

Do you really think vegans care about saving animals? They care about virtue signaling 'moral superiority.'

It's not sustainable, nutrients don't come in with the rain. It's depleting the soil ever so slowly.

Also that's not how farming works everywhere. Our grassland for livestock is artificial and fertilized, there is no alternative.

im the opposite of vegan and i get your argument, its actually not as complex as youd like i to be

i see it this way: if you have a forest full of wildlife, kill all the predators, and harvest the game. once you chop down the forest, its more efficient (at least in a world of scarcity) to plant beans, corn and squash and eat it instead of planting said crops, feeding them to animals in concentration camps, and then eating those animals

factory farmed animals taste like shit, too, which is another yet related debate

give me 1kg of game a week over 1 kg of farmed meat a day

i get that our economy is driven by what people want, im just saying that what people want is usually retarded and not the healthiest for them, dont you agree
