Can someone please explain to be the difference between eating, say, 400g of strawberries vs one fun size milky way? I think those have the same amount of sugar but I know the strawberries are better for you.

The difference is between fructose found in fruit and sucrose from HFCS. I think they effect insulin differently

Natural sugar is processed in the body more effectively than other sugars.

Strawberries have a lot of water content, fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Milky Way is almost all fat and sugar, little to no fiber, and insubstantial nutrition.

I didn't realize they were different kinds of sugars. I'll jump on Google and check it out. Thank you very much.

>>11364525
The correct answer

There are only three different kinds of sugars (they have a bunch of different names) and they are all the same thing fructose, dextrose, sucrose.
To add to that sucrose is one part fructose and one part dextrose so really there are two sugars but sucrose is it's most common form. Fructose and dextrose are the same elements in the same amounts the molecules are just shaped/aligned differently, neither is better than the other and the body treats all three the same way.

Fruits mostly add fibre and vitamins with the sugar where as the snickers is sugar and fat with some cocoa butter for flavor the fibre of fruits helps you digest then easier and fills you up faster for less calories that's why fruits are better than candy even though both have a decent amount of sugar

I agree with you on your overall conclusion, but not on this point. Arrangement of atoms makes all the difference to enzymes, and fructose will enter into glycolysis at a different point than glucose/dextrose.

I used to drink soda every day, as soon as I quit I immediately started getting thinner and was finally able to appreciate drinks for something other than sweetness and a sugar fix

i just did the math,

to equal the amount of sugar you get from eating 10 fun sized milky ways, you would have to eat 250 strawberries, which is physically impossible.

It's dextrose that comes from milk. Lactic= milk those is just the suffix for all sugars
Fun fact dextrose and glucose are two different names for the exact same thing
Maltose is just fructose that comes from barely
They are compound sugars that are made up of different amounts of the three sugars listed above
>>11364655
That's true, I more wanted to strees that neither sugar is healthier than the other alot of people see fructose think fruit and assume it's a 'healthy sugar's which is flat out wrong as high fructose corn syrup is practically the same thing as glucose syrup

Added/processed sugars aren't broken down by your body as easily as natural glucose.
Also strawberries, and other fruits, have fiber that passes through your body more easily and aid in digestion.

This is untrue. Any cell of your body can process glucose (dextrose). Only your liver can process fructose.

The main differences are:
1. The candy won't have inulin or any other type of fibers. The combination offiber with the sugar regulates your blood sugar value in a way healthier manner.

2. The candy bar does not give you any vitamins and not very many minerals either.

3. The strawverries provide you with fluids thr candy does not.

4. The candy is more caloric (of coursethis can be either good or bad) since it also contains a decent amount of fat on top of the sugar.
I don't think there are other differences
