One of the only generalizations I think actually almost always applies to genders is that men are better at intense focus, and women are better at multitasking. If I'm working a busy kitchen with only one or two coworkers, a competent female cook can be really nice to have around, because they're good at keeping a lot of balls in the air at once without sacrificing quality. If you need someone to calmly debone a salmon on the fly, though, or stand at a station and knock out steaks for eight hours, males are much better at maintaining the required level of focus without getting hysterical. When things get intense, female chefs seem like they're in the middle of a panic attack or ragegasm that they're just barely managing; male chefs seem like they're about to just walk out of the restaurant into the middle of the street and try to get run over by a truck if someone looks at them wrong. Super butch dykes are obviously different.

I'm a male cook at a restaurant working with other male cooks as well. I agree that men are more focused although for me its quite the opposite, while we are cooking the food, the female waiters tend to scream at us for taking too long and when the dish is ready, the waiter responsible for that table is out at the back smoking. I know people have an emotional attachment to Nonna’s cooking, but it took me and my friends about three times to perfect a better carbonara (no cream) than she could ever make. Ok but when you have three people working four stations, 15 tickets on the board, and need to prep on the fly, you don't have the option to do one thing at a time. Most people, of either gender, can't handle this kind of pressure; of the men and women that can, it's both my observation and the opinion of tons of experienced head chefs and restaurant owners that females can keep more balls in the air at once, and make excellent GMs and kitchen managers. Listen ya little weenie, girls don't invent new dishes, they can very rarely butcher for shit, they're much messier when working at maximum speed, and they're much worse at qualitatively talking about food, even when they have good palates. But they're better at multitasking.

Staying at a crash pad right now.
