I was born in NY but lived in NJ my whole life and absolutely agree with you OP. The snobbery and elitism about fucking pizza of all things is just unreal. And most importantly is the fact that it's totally overblown. I'm used to "NY" pizza my whole life and even when I was in fucking South Carolina for my brother's graduation from Marine boot camp, we got pizza before the ride home and it was fucking amazing. Delicious NY style with pepperoni. Tasted the same or better than anything I had back home. Shits a fucking joke.

It's much easier to change a food than to change people's tastes. If you want to open a pizza restaurant in China for example, what do you do? Serve them precisely what's on the menu in Italy or whatever? No, you'd change it so they have some familiar ingredients or side dishes or whatever so it matches their tastes -- not the other way round. That's what happens when making new food or introducing foreign foods, all around the world.

I've been to multiple Pizza Huts in China. It's just Pizza Hut but with more dessert options.
