Out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to grow morels? Was it difficult? You can buy the spores online.

I like the earthy/meaty taste of mushrooms but I hate the texture. I can only eat them diced. Sliced and whole I can't do. Is that weird?

i wish i was a mushroom expert and confident enough to eat the ones i find.
imagine being able to walk in the forest and find a tasty vegan meal AND psychedelic drugs, whenever you want.

question for mushroom hunters: what percentage of ones you find are deadly?, is it like 25% or something?
also how long does it take to find psychedelic mushrooms?, do you need to search all day?, or are they fairly common?

It depends where you live. Many of the best mushrooms are found in old forests in spring/fall. Psychedelics are often ambiguous and it's best to simply cultivate them.

>question for mushroom hunters: what percentage of ones you find are deadly?, is it like 25% or something?

This is a difficult question, and it depends not only where you are, but what time of year it is. By far the most common deadly species I run into is Amanita bisporigera. Its not so much that there's some high percentage of mushrooms that are toxic. It's more the case that the toxic species may seem more common relative to the choice edibles, simply by virtue of being more efficient at reproduction, or maybe even having more lenient growth conditions.

>also how long does it take to find psychedelic mushrooms?, do you need to search all day?, or are they fairly common?

Again, that depends on where you live and what time of year it is. There are certain parts of the country that some species simply do not occur in. I will say, however, that the relevant genera (Psilocybe, Gymonpilus, Panaeolus) are absolutely not beginner friendly, have loads of toxic mimics, and require an advanced working knowledge of mushroom identification to succeed with, which is something that the typical psilocybin-seekers lack.

The one on the left is a bolete, and yes, it is a mushroom. In lieu of gills, they have a spongelike surface where the gills would be on your typical agaric mushroom. The reticulation on that mushroom suggests a Leccinum species, though I dont get nearly as much practice with bolete IDs, so take that with a grain of salt. Actually, take everything internet strangers say with a grain of salt, lest you end up like this moron.

They're notoriously difficult to grow commercially, which is exactly why the industry mostly relies on people foraging them in the wild

It seems that people have a general idea of what kind of conditions they pop up in but it's not understood well enough to reliably grow them where planted

The chinese have actually had a fair amount of success with commercial morel cultivation. There's a mycologist on /an/ who specializes in morchella species who knows far more about the subject than I do. Shouldnt be hard to search some archives for his paragraphs on the subject. It's great reading.
