Raw water's a real dumb fucking word for spring water.

My girlfriends on a farm with well water, I could call that raw water since it's not from the city, be putting that shit in bottles and selling it for 10 bucks.

If you want to be technical raw water is any naturally sourced untreated water. Well, rain, springs, creeks all are raw water.

only because of cattle farms. before cattle farms it was highly unlikely you'd find diseases in your water because they werent getting shit runoff from the cattle farms. Most of the worst diseases in water are there because of cow shit sometime in the past

That's not a human thing, it's an adaptation thing. Populations of both people and animals reliant on untreated water develop an immunity/resistance to at least some of the natural contaminants in the area over time, and if you gave really nasty-ass water to some animal which never had any exposure to it, it'll get sick too.

And in the case of parasites, animals don't really give a shit since they don't exactly understand the concept or have any means to do much about them, and only relatively recently in the grand scale of things did humans start to care.

The ground water in my home town is pure enough to only need sand filtering and nothing else. I can't drink tap water that is chlorinated in the slightest because of this.

for years i used to not bother filtering my drinking water when backpacking if i was way up in the mountains and found a clear, fast-moving water source. then one time i got horrible diarrhea and broke out in hives for two days, so that put a stop to that. maybe some animal had just pissed in it upstream or something. fresh water straight from a mountain stream is pretty tasty though.
