Went to an Aldi by my house the other day and it was a tiny shithole of a grocery store. Barely had anything because in it's small space each section of food was condensed to only a few items

I buy all basic stuff (eggs, milk, flour, bread, chicken, pork, cheese, etc). Routine grocery shop purchase.
Aldi is right across from the Walmart. Added in recently. So I went to Aldi first looking for lower prices on the exact same set of ingredient purchases

1. I couldn't buy everything on my list at Aldi. Had to go to Walmart anyway.
2. Comparing the combined receipt this time vs. the receipt from my previous grocery shop with no Aldi's, I saved a whopping $1.48

At the very least nothing there was higher priced.

Aldi's the "high end" discount grocery store. The prices are on the same level as Save-A-Lot's for instance, but the stores are actually clean, the food is all decent quality or better, they actually have some organic items, and the stores are filled with a variety of people instead of the trashy end of the low-income spectrum.

Went there today. go there weekly. It's got everything I need. Their "Brookdale Luncheon Meat" is identical to Spam. Lunch meat and basics for a blue-collar lunch box and basic dinners are identical to name brands of Wal Mart brand items.

Their brand of coffee (bagged, not the big can) is also pretty good and strong enough for me.

I've been buying their organic single source whole bean coffee bags. They're a couple bucks cheaper than regular whole-bean coffee from name brands, and so far the quality has been just as good.

Aldi is pretty good. They tend to be slightly cheaper than Kroger and frequently have a rotation of staples on hella sale. I get all of my basics there and then go to Kroger for the things I couldn't find.

Grocery bill for two ends up being about $100/week. We could go cheaper if we ate more boring meals but I think that's a pretty decent price point for food. Gf also has a bunch of doctor ordered restrictions on the types of foods she can eat so we sometimes have to shell out for more expensive stuff.

There's a few near me. I hated them for a long time because I went to one that only has shit produce and bigass bags of grains, but then I went to another that has decent bread, a great deli section, good dairy, cheap frozen fruit, etc. etc. It depends on the area.

Around where most of my family lives, you can get craft quality beer, and decent (and actually reasonably good) wine, on top of actual groceries.
