Alcohol has its uses. It's an effective social lubricant. It can be used for temporary emotional numbing. Some booze tastes fucking amazing, though often it's too expensive to be worth it. It's also damn good in cooking. Wine and beers for stew. Beer and vodka are both useful for making crispier, lighter, deep-frying batter. Reductions of wine are the cornerstone of many great sauces. Wine and many sorts of liquor are useful for deglazing. I very rarely drink alcohol these days but I cook with it multiple times a week.

I can't avoid a hangover anymore unless I drink moderately. Even 6 or 7 beers spread out over 4 hours is too much now.
