What's the secret to good chili?

My recipe:
>diced tomatos
>tomato paste
>ground beef
>jalapeno
>beans, black and red kidney
>paprika, cumin, chili powder

1/2 cup of shredded unsweetened dark chocolate.

Thank me later.

Definitely a lot of beans. I also like to add corn and peas, make it visually more appealing. Chunky carrot bits are definitely a must, as well as some mushrooms for textural contrast. Lot's of diced tomatoes of course, to make it red, and just a touch of cayenne to make it spicy - but not too much, I still wanna be able to eat it!

I'm a vegan, but why would you need any meat with all of those delicious vegetables? A perfect Chili con Carne doesn't need any meat!

Lots of good chiles
Moderate amount of good beef
Avoid beans unless you're a child or poor

You don't need to go crazy with half a dozen different kinds of fresh and dried chilis, but only using jalapenos makes me think this is bait. Otherwise it's a pretty straightforward recipe, though I like to add a tall can of beer, and obviously it should be served over rice.

ive been cooking with my grandma lately so it's been a fresh food/boomer fusion. we were making chili and while I'm cutting up jalapeños from the garden she opened up a can of tomato soup and some pork 'n beans.

I'm not from america, chili is not really a local dish. I understand a lot of you are hispanic and passionate about your food, I didn't mean to offend. What kind of chilis would you suggest?

>a lot of you are hispanic

Chili isn't a hispanic dish; it just uses chili peppers.
