The reign of terror is over /ck/. The Red Delicious Apple is dead and Gala is now the most popular apple in the US.

Good riddance. Time to cut all those Red Delicious trees to rootstock and graft Fujis on them.

>> No.11143500

Why is it so expensive, bros? I don't want to pay $3 a lb for fucking apples, but honeycrisps are so good.

The skin is super thin and fragile so the pickers have to cut the stems very short. Pickers get paid more for the same amount of apples, meaning each apple costs a bit more. Yea the price sucks, but I feel it's worth it.

Too soft and sweet, what have people got against crispins?

>> No.11144269

The thing is that red delicious aren't bad when they're fresh, but they are usually eaten like 8 months after they've been picked and the texture's gone all mealy. The problem is that the sturdy skins they have keep them looking fresh after a year in cold storage, so people sell them anyhow.
