There's no doubt that culvers is good. I am from the great white north and whenever I have to drive down I gotta get one.

But they damn near kill me every time. I am serious, I feel like I am on the verge of death from all the fat, and sugars, and carbs and etc I consume there. The last time I was literally gasping after my burger and shake. I'm legit considering never returning for health reasons.

If Americans have access to food like this on a regular basis it's no wonder they're so.... Robust.

BK is good right now. The jalapeno chicken sandwich and the sourdough king are both pretty good. Wendy's has nothing of value though.

I have lived for extended periods of time with access to every major burger chain, and I'm afraid I have to tell you that whataburger is actually better than Culver's. The ability to put anything on Texas toast as well as the existence of the honey butter chicken on a biscuit is simply unparalleled. Culver's does win me over though with the frozen custard and fried cheese curds, they've probably got the best side selection of any burger joint.

While I love culver's, whataburger is a totally different burger place. It's that kinda shitty, but reliable drunk night stop that provides a nice grease bomb. They also have strawberry fanta on tap. It has a soft spot in my heart still.

Culver's burgers are good. Culver's fries are booty. There used to be a chain of burger joints where I live with far better fries than Culvers and burgers just as good (better, actually, but it's been a while so I might just be fawning over nostalgia). They went out of business due to a huge number of scandals with the co-owners, including wage theft, bank fraud, tax fraud/evasion and insurance fraud. The tax evasion was in the multimillions, IIRC.
All the partners save the one who flipped are currently serving prison sentences, I think. Shame, too, cuz those were damn good burgers. Fuckin' magical, really.

As someone from Wisconsin I think Culver's is pretty overrated. It's good for a chain burger but I will eat any local bar burger over them, and there are some local burger specialty places around me that make the best burgers I've ever had in my life and I've lived in a dozen different states.

What Wisconsin does better than anyone is beer and cheese and pairing those two things with good traditional gut-busting food like burgers and brats and battered & fried fish. I'm sure there are some east coast burgers or some down south that kick the crap out of the best of Wisconsin, but our beer and cheese make for a better ensemble.
