My dad had a stroke when I was about 8 or 9. I vividly remember it being the middle of the night and he had a really bad headache. He went into the bathroom to take something for it and collapsed. My mom had to help him up and back to the bedroom before calling an ambulance.

His right side has been pretty much fucked since then. This was around ~20 years ago.

My dad is almost 60 and fat (losing a lot of weight though ketopost) so I am always super worried about his ailments. Had a scare like 6 months back, but we think it was an anxiety attack. Over something really dumb too. I'll just say he has severe anger issues and tripped hard over spilt milk.

Unfortunately he won't ever be back to his normal self and his right side will never be fully functional again. It's really disheartening. He's gone through so much bullshit over the years and apparently he's also at high risk for alzheimer's.

Was around 420lbs when he started keto, has dropped 100 in the last year. Still obese probably at 6'2" but losing 100lbs in a year aint bad. His vitals are always really good for being so fat though. I aint no doctor but it would be a blessing if the typical problems with the heart and bloodflow were avoided for whatever reason and he just has to deal with the damage his weight has done to his lower body which isn't insignificant. He walks with a cane whenever he doesn't want to uphold an appearance or wants the sympathy.

I used to work in stroke rehab and I don't think I ever had a patient who smelled burnt toast. Not saying it doesn't happen but it's definitely not as common as some folk think.

Stroke symptoms vary based on severity and location. You might just suddenly start slurring your speech or you might feel faint. You might also lose all control of one or both sides of your body, and bowels, or you might just fucking drop dead.
The stuff to watch out for is the slurred speech, talking gibberish, or paralysis or paresthesia. If the stroke is more severe than just those symptoms you will know for sure anyway. Stroke awareness is about spotting the "mild" ones and acting on them.

Probably an aneurysm if it gave him a headache. Stroke is either aneurysm, where a blood vessel bursts, or ischemic, which is a blood clot. The symptoms are almost exactly the same but the treatments obviously aren't (you don't want to give blood thinners to someone with a burst blood vessel in the brain after all.)
