Alcohol causes fatty liver disease similar to the way type 2 diabetes does, and thus causes many of the same health problems, but alcohol does it through a different metabolic pathway that lowers blood sugar and insulin levels. Did your doctor mention your alcoholism when he saw your low a1c levels? That is usually a dead giveaway to alcoholism.

If your type 1 (no insulin) then ketosis can be lethal. If you're a type 2 on insulin then you're ok, insulin regulates ketone production and if there's one thing type 2s have a shitton of its insulin. But type 1 and a keto diet is a good way to die.
