In the earlier seasons of Kitchen Nightmares he’d eat more of the food without picking it apart. But once in a while he’d search the kitchen and find the exact fucking ingredients they used in his food sitting in a pile of mold. No man, a lot of us hate it too and I don't think we're angrier than Brits or really any other people from any other country, it's just how our TV and media have evolved. I truly think that a lot of this is just leftovers from the cocaine 80s. Television and some other forms of entertainment media have been such a powerhouse that they kind of retain a momentum, so some old habits and practices take some time to die off. Couple this with the fact that relatively few people have control over those forms of media and you have perpetuating media tropes.

I think a part of it is also people that are just straight up used to those old shitty tropes and genuinely think it's good out of ignorance. I know I'm gonna sound like a piece of shit snob, but I think a good example of this is shows like Everybody Loves Raymond, The Big Bang Theory or Friends. They're formulaic and are a byproduct of a few people having control over what goes on the air, but how can you possibly think those are genuinely funny, good quality shows after seeing sitcoms like idk, Malcolm in The Middle, Arrested Development, Peep Show, It's Always Sunny, Bob's Burgers or The Office? I know that sounds elitist, but I think it's true. A lot of people have bad taste, but a lot of those people also just haven't really tried the good stuff.

I do think the last 10 years or so have been crucial in changing this, because we're had amazing entertainment on some less centralized platforms like the internet.

This is pretty much it. I binged watched a few seasons of Hells Kitchen US and Kitchen Nightmares USA. When you watch episodes back to back, it becomes painfully obvious how scripted they are.

The same things happen, in the same order in every episode.

On Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon will always like the desserts that happen to be made by some woman who works part time/a grandmother or something along those lines.

On Hells Kitchen, every tasting challenge comes down to the last dish as a decider. Every time a team has to choose which dish to present, Gordon always loves the one they chose not to present.

After watching a few back to back, it just became pointless as it was obvious what would happen next.
