I think slop can be good. We're used to solid food like bratwurst and bread and potatoes and stuff like that in the West because that's what we grew up with. But most of the best dishes are as good as they are because of the SAUCES they use. Goopy food is like a sauce, except the the other ingredients are part of the sauce. So far the best local food I've had was in:

The worst local food I've had:

Singapore was just like eating Malay or Indonesian but somehow made 10 times better. It's like they added a ladle of msg to every dish (in a good way). And food is so cheap too, easy to find meals for $5.
