Israels history is nuts. In the late 40s, the region was overrun by Jewish terrorist organizations, namely the Stern and Irgun Gangs, who used some of the most brutal scare tactics and ruthless violence against civilians, regardless of whether they were Jewish, Palestinian, or British, of the 20tu century. Many of the leaders of these gangs went on to form the leadership of Israel, including many prime ministers, and as far as I know they were completely unrepentant of the terrorist tactics they used to sieze power at any point. Palestinians did not leave the region willingly; they were terrorized to the point of having to abandon their homes. Entire Palestinian towns and villages were deserted, and now the grandchildren of those refugees crowd Gaza and Jericho, unable to leave, to the point of turning those small towns into massive open air prisons. Israeli settlement in the West Bank constitutes the first violent siezure of land by a sovereign nation since Germany's annexations in world war 2, a rather bleak irony. Every single settler in the West Bank, and by now there are more of them than there were Palestinian refugees in 1948, is culpable as a war criminal under the Geneva convention.
