Yeah, I'd say it went rancid. Personally I wouldn't use straight lard in cookies I'd use a mix of Lard and Butter that way you get the best qualities and taste of both.

It doesn't smell rancid though. In the container it smells fine. It was shelved for several months though.

no oxygen barrier is perfect, you should still keep it cold. it has a 6 month shelf life, where as in the fridge it can last a year.

Did you use the lard in your pic? That's shitty quality. If you can't get fresh lard, make it yourself, or find something better, just stick with butter.

Lard and butter aren't really interchangeable for sweet recipes though. Making it with good lard won't have a rancid taste but it'll still take a bit porky. Lard is better for savory things in general.

>>11043517
was it baking lard or frying lard? lard only lasts about a year when refrigerated so if it was left out it probably went rancid

lard works well for short cake, pie crust and biscuits, and that's pretty much it. cornbread too i guess.

Someone suggested to me once that lard is way better to have on a biscuit than butter. It tasted like ASS. I'm still not sure if he was serious or just joking. If you're reading this Jeremy, fuck you.
