How do you properly store cleavers? Regular knife blade guards only protect the edge, leaving the rest of the blade vulnerable to scratches in the knife drawer. I don't have space for a magnetic knife rack, so that's not an option.

Fuck that shit. Use a magnetic strip anyway.
You'll just have to make space.
One magnet glued to the wall will do.
Or get a bucket of rice and stick your knives in there.

How is that even possible? I currently have a magnetic knife rack stuck to the side of my refrigerator because I recently moved and have been too lazy to drill a couple holes into the wall, and it works just fine.

See, that's what I mean about clueless millenials.

Drilling a hole in the blade isn't going to harm the heat treatment. And even if it did, it wouldn't matter since you would clearly drill it far away from the edge which is unhardened anyway. Also, you could drill a hole in the HANDLE if you so preferred.

Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing judged their adhesive as a constant failure and that's why they built machines to test "when" it would fail. You might get 20 years out of it, but it will fail. I built the machines that test that shit.

20 years on the wall seems pretty good to me. He could just glue it up again when it falls off (if it had stayed on for a long period of time of course). Obviously drilling would be a better solution, but OP has already said he can't do that.
