Bottom bun > ketchup and mustard > pickles (and acceptable lettuce placement) > burger > cheese > bacon > drizzle sauce like bbq, sriracha, etc > miscellaneous toppings like fried onions, avocado etc > salad toppings (also acceptable lettuce placement) > mayo > top bun
Indisputable order of things, not all fixins mandatory.

Fixings on top is objectively the correct answer. Any veg/cheese under the patty will prevent the lower bun from absorbing the beef's juice, which will cause it to well up and spill onto your fingers/chin.

mayo, horseradish, tomato, burger, pickles mustard onion cut lettuce.

The horseradish isn't there for flavour. It's there for enhancing every other vegetable.

You layer it in order of what you want to taste because that's the order in which it'll hit your tongue while chewing and moving around your mouth. So what's the main part of a hamburger? The beef patty, so that goes on first, then the cheese, then the salad toppings. Putting vegetables under the patty means you'll taste them more than the beef, and while I like vegetables a lot, I don't want to taste that before the beef.

This way I actually taste the burger with the cheese and sauces.

>> No.11011297

I'm going to start from the bottom since that's how you build it on the plate.

Bun, duh.
Mayonnaise, a fat to essentially waterproof the bun from burger juices so it doesn't get soggy.
Onions, I like mine diced so sticking them in the mayo like a glue keeps them nice and together.
Tomato, since I put ketchup on the top bun, keeping the tomatoes away means this is the only real spot for them.
Patty.
Cheese.
Pickles, like the onions, I kind of press them into the melty cheese so they don't slide around.
Lettuce, not really anywhere else to put it, so here.
Ketchup on the bun.

Also >>11010471 's bun inversion. The top is always thicker, so that goes on the bottom for maximum soggy resistance.

>> No.11011299

>>11011065
I don't know about that. Onions under the patty work well

Depends on how the ingredients are cut. Super fine diced onions? Then underneath patty or they spill everywhere. Onion slices? On top. Tomato? Needs to be in a spot that prevents slippage. If you have tomatoes sandwiches between pickles and lettuce then there is a significant amount of slippage when the burger is eaten, and can cause the tomatoes to slip out.

You basically need to construct it in such a way that it is solid. That is way it typically goes sauce->finely diced things (the sauce holds the fine stuff in place)->burger with cheese->things that can cling to the cheese (ie pickles, thick onions, whatever)->lettuce->then tomato or whatever above the lettuce so it grabs onto the crumb of the top bun to prevent slippage.

Keep in mind this is only really important with huge burgers that are hard to take a bite out of and hold. It really doesn't matter if it's like a single patty classic burger.
