I usually drink dirty vodka martinis, but I wanted to make a "perfect" martini so I bought some sweet vermouth, but it taste like ass.
What else can I do with the sweet vermouth?

Also, Martini general

4 star hotel barman here

Vermouth is a misunderstood drink, and ignorance has lead it to be consistently one of the worst quality spirits in the bar.
Because nobody drinks it neat anymore, companies are selling anything that won't get them sued as vermouth.... And at the same time often charging spirit prices for a wine!

If the vermouth is so bad you can't mix it with vodka, this barman suggests either its not worth drinking or you simply don't like vermouth.

What brand is it?

i think i just dont like sweet vermouth, but the dry version is always great for my dirty vodka martinis

Nigger are you serious.

That's rosso, it's not sweet vermouth.
You don't use that in a Martini, you use it in a negroni or a manhatain

If you are using Martini brand sweet vermouth and just posted rosso, I hate the Martini sweet even more than the rosso/dry/extra dry.
Try making a martinez

As a Martini drinker myself I just use a good bottle of white wine and infuse it under pressure.... Or just find a fortified white wine you like

well, I usually use pic related, but I wanted to try a "perfect" martini which is supposedly equal parts dry and sweet vermouth. But I guess I got the wrong stuff?

There's white sweet vermouth and white dry vermouth. The perfect martini use those two, not the red stuff - that's for Manhattans and Negronis.

Not only that, but you bought the cheapest shit brand you could find. Skimp on price, skimp on quality.

>>11006886
>Yes
No. A martini glass full of rum isn't a martini, it's just a martini glass full of rum. Even if you add vermouth and olives, it's not a martini.

Holy shit how can one man be so retarded

OP you made the "Perfect" martini correctly, its just a bad drink. I've never heard of someone actually enjoying one. Use the sweet vermouth for Manhattans and the Negroni family of drinks.

As for martini general, what gin does everyone like for Martinis? I really like Ford's right now.

Tanqueray Number 10 goes well for me.

For once /ck/ talks about gin! What’s in your bar right now?
For me, from least favorite to favorite:
>Generous Gin
>Opihr
>Gin madame del professore
>Plymouth
>Bombay Sapphire
>Bulldog
>Bombay Sapphire East
>Citadelle
>Tanqueray
>Hendricks
>Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s bathtub gin
>Tanqueray Ten
>Ungava
>Howling Owl

>>11008524
>Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s bathtub gin

I mean good damn, maybe it tastes good but the name is an annoyance.

Of that list I've had Bombay, bulldog, tanqueray and hendrix. I like Hendrix the best because of how floral it is. Are there any others like it? Hopefully less expensive?

Yeah it was even a chore to type it all lol. But the stuff is good!
Hendricks is really apart from the gins I know and have access to. Never tasted another one quite like it. But google says https://www.supercall.com/spirits/gin/gins-taste-like-hendricks

Most people arnt familiar with vermouth. I can name you 10 different vodkas, rums, gins, and bourbons, but only one or two brands of vermouth and obviously Im not alone.

ive only had a few of those, but it was always mixed with tonic. Got any good martini recipes for those fancy gins?

>>11008684
i used to do this all the time back in my bar hopping days. I only like martini glasses at home, or if im trying to impress an older lady. Otherwise, theyre too hard to maneuver with in a crowded bar with a bunch of drunks bumping in to you on your way back to your table.
