Are MRE's actually good? I can get a pretty good deal on cases of them which effectively brings the cost of each one to under $2 per meal.

>> No.10998575

Not really. They’re not meant to replace meals for a long time either.

>> No.10998587

No they're not that great. I was in the army and ate loads of them. I didn't mind any of them. Even the omelette one (the green salsa really helps). They're expensive to buy outright though. If you want to buy a few for camping or hiking or something like that, or just to try that's cool I guess but just keep it to that.
Protip: remove the packaging and extra boxes and tape them together to minimize bulk

I didn't read your post apparently. $2 a piece is a good deal. Sell them to /k/

Anon, how can I be part of this good deal? I'm looking for a reliable source in which I can get MREs for <$5 per meal.

>> No.10998750

Milfag here. $2 is a great deal. They are not good for daily eating, but fun for camping or long hikes. I would just resell them. They easily go for above $10 per package.

MREs often contain name-brand candy. This is done on purpose; the idea is to provide a little bit of nostalgia. It helps morale to get a little taste of "home" when you're stuck in some far-away shithole getting shot at.

>> No.10998990

>>10998965
They ship well and are considered a morale booster. Most rations around the world have a familiar comfort food in them.

US MREs are the worst I've tried and I've had nearly 20 different countries at this point including several third world countries

Name every country you’ve had an MRE from.

They won't work as a meal replacement unless you're particularly fond of taking solid cannonball shits that will tear that anus.

They send Skittles too. Charms were sent in the past but they melt into some weird amalgam of cursed sweets.

I've had a French, Spanish, and US MRE after watching Steve's videos and they're all shit. Just buy one from MRE Mountain, Ebay, or some other place just to get the thought out of your head. I love Steve's videos, but he acts like the meals are the best things he's ever had in his life.

>> No.10999525

I've tried about half of the menus. Despite what a lot of people in this thread are saying, I personally like them. There are maybe two menus that I don't care for, and most of them are just "okay", but there are a few that genuinely taste good to me. The real treat is the snacks, I love the pound cakes and other weird pastries. If you can get them for $2 each definitely try them out, if you like them or not will depend on your taste.

>> No.10999539

>>10998575
This. They are specifically not designed to be eaten for more than 21 days straight and even then, that's rough.

Adding to this, I've also never gotten constipated from MREs, but I hear that varies from person to person.

Thats because its not true. Its just a joke from basic training. Guys who get constipated were going to anyway

>> No.10999911

>>10999413
It's a classic example of US military early-adopter curse. MREs were pretty advanced at the time of their introduction, with the packaging and preservation being pretty state of the art. Many other countries modernized theirs years after that and could take advantage of lessons learned from the MRE to make something better.

I thought the experiments showed that in less than a week the soldiers performance decreased. The conclusions were that a soldier needs fresh eggs, milk and bread to be healthy.

>> No.11001296

>>10998569
No, they are just convenient for soldiers because they don't spoil in the field, can be eaten out of the package, and will fill your belly with energy for not getting shot. There's a reason soldiers trade MRE components.
