I understand in olden days, when travel was limited, and you could only make due with what you had on hand. But it's 2018.

I'd wager 80% of America has no fucking clue what good food tastes like. The farther away you get from big cities and into the "Heartland" the problems becomes more apparent.

People are literally eating slop. Dying at age 30 from Type 2 Beetus. Just random amounts of cheese, cream, bacon and processed junk thrown together with no regard for subtlety. America wasn't always like this.

How does this happen /ck/? How do people like Ja/ck/, Joey or Sara even exist?

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it slop. Learn what literally means, it's one of the last good words we have that means one thing.

It's already gone.

I do eat things sometimes I would prefer not to but it's a result of me being a shit cook and me not wasting money. I choose things that are close to me and within range as to not waste my time/gas driving to go get it and not wasting my money on tipping by eating in.

I can't speak for anon, but I assume he was referring to the quality of food rather than people's personal preferences. For example: I don't care if you like to drown your food in cheese. But why not do it with actual cheese rather than imitation cheese food product (TM)(R)?

I don't think that saying proximity to big cities equates to good food quality is accurate.

Some of the most disgusting food comes out of major metros. Have you never seen people of fb or whatever sharing vids of urban restos that serve like, a whole wheel of melted cheese scraped over a donuts or some other mortifying memefood shit like that?

In a lot of rural areas you can get simple honest food. Stews with all home grown ingredients. BBQ made with wild game, etc.
Urban insectoids do not have a monopoly on good taste, they just have more options in a more concentrated area.

Apathetic nonsense. Some changes are benign, some are not. If, because of repeated misuse, a word loses connection to its original root or to other related words, that harms clarity and understanding.

People like you who say "It happens regularly, therefore it must be good or acceptable," are repeating an obvious fallacy.

What is this fantasy that the residents of such cultural titans as Staten Island aren't shoveling Big Macs, sub sandwiches, chinese takeout and fried chicken into their fat maws same as everyone else.

People don't know shit about good food because they're lazy, cheap, ignorant and demanding; universal traits.
It's why people pay $30 for shitty lobster 500 miles from New England, buy $4.50/lb USDA choice steak, buy 3 week old tasteless fruits shipped halfway across the world because they're out of season, and couldn't cook a box of Uncle Ben's instant rice without starting a gas fire.

Life is shit when you're poor. Your parents often end up too busy working their multiple jobs to barely keep a roof over your head, and what's left doesn't really leave room to go to places where you can find out what nice things are.

In a way, it's merciful, as a child. If you don't know what it's like when things are better, it's not going to hurt as much when things are awful, and you don't have quite the same chance of killing yourself. Most people just get a bit bitter when they get old and find this stuff out, though, because most likely they won't be able to afford it either. They don't get access to the experience, and it's a hard, long, and potentially risky journey to get to the point of recreating the experience by yourself. When things aren't going great in general, you don't want to have to "eat your mistakes" like most new cooks have to, either. You just want to eat something carnally appealing because you have to be at work again pretty soon.

Travel is still extremely limited for a huge amount of people. Congratulations on being born into enough wealth to avoid this.

>southern food
>scuzzy people eating nasty slop
This happened because flyovers and southerners use heavy machinery and poison (or in historical times, endless fields of slaves) to feed themselves. When quality = quantity, people don't care what it tastes like.

The reason the Northeast and California have so much better food is the climate is conducive to quality produce, and the culture is friendly to diversity (in every way) rather than monocropping.

Flyovers think "diversity" means "a lot of black people, in addition to the white people", which is why their food is a cosmic joke.
