This is actually a very deep question.

The thing to remember is that we are primates/mammels, so that means the offer of food is never just an offer of food- it's a power transaction.

When someone offers you a bite of their food because they think it tastes good, they arent just sharing, they are trying to get reciprocity and support.
So when you say, No, they take it not just as "he's turning down food," but rather, "I am being rejected,"

and of course since there seems to be mores about turning down offers a few times, people always do the "no, come on.." "have a bite!"
which I understand but I don't like it when people dont take no for an answer and thn try to emotionally manipulate me because I stand by my initial No.

Basically an offer of food is really an offer of bonding. When you turn down the food, people feel personally rejected, so they start trying to change you mind- ie, not taking no for an answer.

So now the person is ignoring your first answer, ignoring you second answer of No- which at that point is becoming a boundaries... and if they go in for a third "come on! you HAVE to try it..." they are just getting frantic.

That's why I now get uncomfortable when offered food- even if it is totally casual, if I say no, it creates discomfort and usually leads to people revealing that they dont care what you want... just what their ego needs.
