Homemade, I use an adjusted version of Chef John's Nashville fried chicken recipe to suit my tastes a bit better.

When I've eaten from fast food places or restaurants it's always been either too greasy or overcooked and dry inside.

Some chicken joint down in south florida by pompano beach where my grandparents used to live. They also had some really good hushpuppies.
A nice second as silly as it sounds, it just stuff from a local supermarket, as long as you get it at the right time, about 1:30pm to 2pm, then it hasn't been sitting out.

I had chicken wings at a Gyoza bar in Kyoto then were insanely good. It was a deal where you get gyoza then pick from a bunch of sides and I just chose the chicken wings without expecting much. They were jaw droppingly good.
If it doesn't count because they were just wings I'm not sure what the best friend chicken would be. The only time I really get fried chicken is from KFC and it's shockingly hit or miss imo. The charcoal chicken down the road from me does very good fried chicken but I've never had it when I've been like, "Whoa, that's so good". It's just good and consistent quality.

if he had the same problem with it as I did, I just add lot more spices to everything

cumin, paprika, garlic powder for the flower,
hot sauce, Worcester sauce, lemon juice, honey, chili flakes and more spices if I feel like it for the glace
jalapeños' pickle water instead of cucumber's and what really works great instead of buttermilk, since I was forced to buy at a russian market and it turned out to be the best happenstance, Kefir with a pinch of caramel in it

Fried chicken is always best when its made by some ghetto ass black people, I once i was in Georgia and was in some back woods area going to meet my dealer, Well after i got the shit and was high as fuck I was driving down and saw this place that looked so rundown. It looked like it was abandon but it had a "Open" sign on it and a shitty sign that said "fresh country fried chicken" I went in there and there was so many flys all over the building I wasnt sure about eating there but i was too high and needed to sober up so i got some chicken and WEW. It was the best chicken i ever had in my life I even gave the obese fat black women waiter a wink when i left to let her know they did a good job.

Peruvian Pollo ala Brasa with Aji de Polleria. It might look like a regular chicken but the skin is crackling like roast pork and the chicken is so unbelievably moist, even the deep part of the breast. Eaten with the most delicious sauce that has a fresh taste of creamy herbs with a cheesy consistency.

Peruvians have some really good food

A local family restaurant has some really good fried chicken. Also the best catfish in town. KFC extra crispy is adequate fried chicken, despite what the haters may say. Just make sure it's not been sitting under a heat lamp too long. Also, some deli counters have surprisingly good chicken sometimes. If they make it all in-house out of a whole chicken they sectioned themselves, you can usually expect the batter and spices to be on point.

Sweet are the fruits of your own labor.

I made some fried chicken, and it wasn't terribly pretty, the batter contracted and left a portion of meat exposed to the oil on each leg, but all the same, it was buttermilk brined and very very moist.
