Is it morally okay to eat roadkill as a vegan? I mean it's not like it's encouraging further killing and the meat would just go to waste

Well, it isn't moral to legalise it because that would give a perverse incentive to people wanting to bypass hunting laws along with being a threat to public health. Wild animals can be ridden with pathogens even before their digestive tracts are ruptured by fatal trauma and they've been lying on asphalt for possibly days.

Not a vegan, but from the moral aspect it would be hard to argue you shouldn't utilize it unless you went for the "depriving carrion feeders like vultures, coyotes, coons, etc." card but that's fairly specious since it was killed by human interaction not naturally. I've stopped and gathered squirrels and rabbits that I saw had just been hit with a glancing blow, not smashed and it was fine eating. Big game would be another matter since contamination becomes a major issue with ruptured digestive tracks, although the haunches would probably be good if you saw it just struck.

a hypothetical i've always wanted to ask a vegan:

let's say you are protesting a zoo that's keeping a lion in captivity. your efforts are successful, and the zoo agrees to free the lion back into the wild, but there's a catch. they give the lion to you and tell you it's your job to get it back to the wild. it's going to need to eat before you can get it home. how do you ethically get meat for the lion?

>> No.10899587

currently, yes
but if this were ever to take off, then inevitably an industry would be built around it and you'd have people purposefully hitting animals to create "vegan-friendly" meals, eventually roads would purposefully be built through animals' territory to make these hunts easier, and as with everything the industrialisation of this kind of meat production would also become exploitative and inhumane, ultimately making it morally untouchable

so no.

Veganism isn't just about what you eat, it's a life style, for example they don't eat honey or ride horses because that's animal abuse.

Eating road kill would mean eating an "abused to death" animal, which goes against their "code" completely.

>> No.10910520

>>10908830
Yet not one vegan has answered why they still use batteries, drive cars, etc. They are all about habitat destruction and random death of animals when it coincides with their ability to live an easy, modern life. But they will give up eating meat and other simple things that barely inconvenience them like horse riding because they can virtue signal around their friends and on social media by doing these things.

There are no vegans that do it for any reason other than virtue signalling. If they cared about animals they would put their money where their mouth is and give up ALL modern conveniences that negatively impact animals.

It sounds like you're the once whose insecure. You are taking a half measure because of your guilty conscience. I don't care what actions you take in your life at all, just don't convince yourself that you are an ethical paragon for eating less meat. Vegans have no moral ground over anyone else, and neither do almost vegans like you. You eat less meat because it makes you feel a little better about your existence. Great, it is doing nothing to positively impact the world, but if it makes you feel better it is an end to a means.

But the self righteous vegans that are fucking everywhere, crusading for animal rights and talking shit everywhere they go. Those are the ones I am after. What in the fuck is their excuse?

nature will very quickly reclaim the calories and proteins in the carcass, there's no such actual thing as 'waste' in nature.

If by nature you mean "the planet as a whole" then sure. But waste is entirely relative to everything else. Bones are waste to many carnivorves who cannot consume them. An insect's exoskeleton is waste to a spider. Feces are waste to the animal which deposited them, but are food to dung beetles.
