Well, it isn't moral to legalise it because that would give a perverse incentive to people wanting to bypass hunting laws along with being a threat to public health. Not a vegan, but from the moral aspect it would be hard to argue you shouldn't utilize it unless you went for the "depriving carrion feeders like vultures, coyotes, coons, etc." card but that's fairly specious since it was killed by human interaction not naturally. I've stopped and gathered squirrels and rabbits that I saw had just been hit with a glancing blow, not smashed and it was fine eating. Big game would be another matter since contamination becomes a major issue with ruptured digestive tracks, although the haunches would probably be good if you saw it just struck.

a hypothetical i've always wanted to ask a vegan:

let's say you are protesting a zoo that's keeping a lion in captivity. your efforts are successful, and the zoo agrees to free the lion back into the wild, but there's a catch. they give the lion to you and tell you it's your job to get it back to the wild. it's going to need to eat before you can get it home. how do you ethically get meat for the lion?
