Milenials are right on this one. Why drink unless you want to get drunk? And if you want to get drunk you sure as fuck don't want to drive. It cost me almost 9k to get rid of a dui.

Drinking at home is the patrician choice. And even my milineal ass was sleeping over at college friends houses in 2002. Buying a bottle and getting hammered with friends is way better than going to some shitty bar.

staying in and drinking has always been an american thing, we just don't have the same pub culture as other countries. Bars were seen as dens of sin and vice (thanks Prohibition), a place for alchoholics and addicts and women of loose morals

Ironically this tendency to drink alone or at home is one of the reasons America has a problem with Alcoholism, because people just get fucking slammed at home with no social repercussion and nobody looking out to tell them they've had enough. We just quietly drink ourselves to death at home to numb the pain of our empty lives. Fuck why do you think al/ck/ threads were so popular before they got shitcanned to /soc/?

Plus, we can put whatever music we want.
We can smoke inside how much we want.
We can buy so much more alcohol.
We can order food and/or cook some, as opposed to a bar which is limited to booze.
We can turn on the consoles and/or watch youtube stuff.
We can poo ourselves in peace.

What put me and my friends off the pubs was the anti-smoke law in pubs. Its really shitty to have to go outside for a smoke, and then return. Especially in steaming hot -20 degree Celsius winters.

Articles like this really rub me the wrong way. The way the smug ass authors word the headline is always misleading and holier than thou. Or more social than thou? Idk someone come up with a better wording.

Anyway, I prefer to drink at home with a small group of friends because most bars are crowded, too loud to have a conversation, and most importantly, the drinks are priced sky high unless you are at some small town dive bar.
That said, those small town pubs are the shit. The one in my hometown has such a nice, worn aesthetic to it. Too bad the town itself has the same feel, but in a bad way.

Why would I spend enough money on a single beer to buy a six pack of the same beer in some shit hole with a band covering dad rock so loudly I can't hold a conversation with my friends? I like trying new beers at bars. My local place does a few nice craft beers for four bucks a pint on Tuesdays, to kick kegs. Also I'm not autistic so I know how tips work: you tip super heavy, close to 50%, and as long as you're not a sperglord and can make good conversation, bartenders will start pouring you free drinks. Comes out to a little less money than if you didn't tip at all, and you get treated much better.

I don't go in for cocktails too much, but I love tiki bars. A well made zombie is a work of art, and two of em get me blacked the fuck out. If there was exclusively a chance of you injuring (or even killing yourself) I wouldn't mind if the limit was .08 or even .4. I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

Yeah this pretty much, add in the fact that the cost of bars adds up. If you go to a club or trendy bar in the city you're paying $12 for someone to open a Corona for you, for example.
The smoking thing is a big deal too. I work as a bartender in a country were we still smoke in bars and it's great. I don't smoke but it goes hand in hand with drinking. The fact that other countries banned it in bars and restaurants because it hurt someone's fee-fees and they have to do laundry the next day cuz eww it smells it's hilarious.

Bar culture in the US and Canada is weird too. Everyone goes to a bar to only hang out with their friends, none talks to randoms, if you're the lone drunk random people think you're crazy. Here you go to a bar alone to meet randoms and walk away drunk that night with 10 new friends on Facebook and 2 dates lined up later that week.
If you're just gonna get trashed with friends why not do it for cheaper and in a better environment like at home anyway? Just makes more sense.

Every small town in America has a bar, even tiny little towns that spring up where two county roads cross. At that crossroads you will find a bar, I guarantee it.

Usually some kind of ale. Browns, dubbels and tripels are great. Wheat beer is no bueno for me though. My dad really helped developed my taste local for local craft beers (NE area) - and steered my away from lagers. They're alright though if I'm drinking them with friends or the right food - Asahi with sushi or Dos Equis with pizza.

Newcastle Brown Ale is probably my go to when in doubt- can find it in many a restaurant and concert venue. Those scenarios make up a bulk of my outside drinking.

It seems like American friendship is extremely cliquish compared to other cultures. I've gone downtown my share of times in college, and everyone just stands huddled in circles. Absolutely no one goes to drink solo, even people looking to get laid travel in medium-sized groups.

Whereas it seems like in Yurop/Aus you can go up with "hey man" to anyone and have a nice conversation with some stranger. Here you'd tap on some frat lord's shoulder, he'd turn around and glare to you, then his circle of 3-7 friends would shuffle away. Went out with people I didn't know well a few times and it was hellish, even getting drunk prior.
