They can I work at a food bank and we can take whatever that isn't alcohol. It really just depends on the programs they have set up and for what purpose (so we don't do baby food anymore because the program got scrapped we still give formula and what not but we toss baby food atm until the head of the bank designs a new program) since the government has rules as to what will be reimbursed and what won't but if the place is big enough sometimes they will run a program at a loss because it's a nonprofit organization and that's what they are there to do. In my state non-profits are exempt from alot of food safety/inspection laws specifically for that reason the government figured it would rather have the risk of the needy get sick once in awhile than the food banksvand homeless centers be skiddish about what they serve I'm a hardline red state though

I had a party for the fourth last minute. made a facebook event, no one even rsvped. i honestly i thought i would be stuck eating a bunch of food by myself. but a whole bunch of friends came and i had about 20 ppl in the end. all the food was eaten.
