In my experience the boomer stereotype more closely fits their parents. Most of the middle to later boomers would have reached adulthood right before or during the economic downturn of the 70s. Greatest Generation had shitty childhoods, but most of their adult years were spent in total economic prosperity and they remained a powerful voting block until the turn of the century.

As for the food thing, you have to remember that between the Great Depression and WW2 food culture was pretty much absent for the vast majority of people for almost 20 years. Anyone who grew up with using a half dozen spices at most, including salt and sugar, regularly is only going to have that to pass on to their kids. And it can't be overstated how recent the ability to get any kind of produce year round at affordable prices is. You can go into any podunk Wal-Mart today and find multiple shelf sections of spices and out-of-season produce easily, that's something really only started in the mid-to-late 90s.

This, my local McDonalds is infested with borderline homeless boomers, some of which make sure to wear something linking them to the military to feel superior.
They're there all day and they get there as soon as the dining room opens. They buy a coffee and a breakfast sandwich or something cheap then spend the entire day leeching free wifi, free coffee refills, and staring at younger people.
