Mute Me Edition

r9k is a sorry excuse for a board in the absence of normal al/ck/ threads. I miss comfy discussion in the old style so let's discuss the finer points of drinking spirits with emphasis on what makes the good stuff the "good stuff".

I have posted a picture of Bacardi Oakheart, which is a cheapish rum that has a "charred oak" character that makes you think you're drinking an overzealous porter with extra alcohol in it. It's the best kind of swill and pairs well with Dr. Pepper, IMHO.

>the good stuff
Anything that numbs the pain.

>the great stuff
numbs the pain with no hangover

VODKA, ftw, senpai.

>> No.10779608

>>10779595

The bad thing about "numbing" the pain is that all that really happens is that you put it off for another time and then you want to drink even more because all those things you put off from before become more and more pressing to deal with.

My favorite vodka is probably Ketel One because it doesn't taste like anything at all. I'm a fan of neutral vodkas which is weird I guess. I like my vodka to be invisible.

>good stuff
As succinctly as possible, good booze maintains an alcohol kick will letting other flavors shine. Shit whiskey tastes like alcohol first, some grain or smoky flavor after, if at all. Good whiskey let's the grain and aging tastes shine with some alcohol bite.

Speaking of good stuff, pic related is out fucking standing if you like American whiskey.

Have never had High West though I have seen it. Do like a good rye, though I tend to prefer bourbon. Feel like I enjoy the high points of bourbon over the high points of rye. Has more treble so to speak than bass. Can see how other people differ in opinion though.

As a fellow al/ck/poster, I suppose I do what I do because it makes me feel good even when I don't feel very good at all. However, I must say I have times where I feel terrible and the knee jerk is to keep on doing it because of the temporary relief but every now and then I have a few days in a row where I lay off and life is pretty good. But I'm not perfect and I tend to bury my feelings when things go south.

I also think you're right about literal poison. It's awful to think about it this way but the alcohol spikes your cortisol levels and most of it tastes like shoe polish.

>bourbon
In almost 30 years of legal drinking, i have yet to figure out why i dont care for bourbon. I've tried a bunch of different corn (bourbon) whiskies, but unless they're charcoal filtered, there's a bite I don't like. There's certainly nothing wrong with them, it's likely my faulty taste buds.

Anyway, ryes and Tennessee corn booze. The default is of course Jack. Ok, fine. Gets the job done, cheap, and while way too sweet, not bad. But not great. The Gentleman Jack is good, the Single Barrel is really good. And there's a whole bunch of others, too.

But then there's this High West stuff. A real league of its own. Simply wonderful, without the Bourbon bite I don't like or the overly sweet Lincoln County taste. For $35 or so a bottle, I highly doubt you'll find better booze. Try it.

Comfiest alcohol imo:

Sandra Lee-style punch at a bbq, picnic, or other outdoor gathering. Fruity and refreshing, but immensely potent.

Got some Woodbridge Sauvignon Blanc with svedka shots going tonight while it rains as my friends go to a drinking party without inviting me.
So I'm here watching twitch streams drinking as I lay out plans for my own youtube/twitch channel for the future.
Feeling pretty down about not being invited however, even tho one of my other friends wasn't invited either and original friends probably still think I'm sick (im recovering from a pretty nasty cold)

If you live in Europe, the US, or Russia, your liver will never be 100% cirrhosis free.
The water of the world is never completely clean or healthy for you. You will have a level of cirrhosis of your liver at some point in your life.
In fact I bet you have cirrhosis more that most posters in this thread, fellow 4chan poster.

Been spending years browsing websites trying to find a whiskey that my father in law had me drink when we first met. I think it was a whiskey anyway. Tasted of chocolate and bananas.

By the time I wanted to buy a bottle he had long been out of it and couldn't remember the brand. I've yet to find it since.

"Chocolate and bananas" sounds much more like a rum than a whiskey, though scotch can also be chocolatey. Sherry barrel-aged maybe?

That's where I've begun to dig around more in. I've certainly found stuff that have similar flavor descriptions but not the exact one I'm after. I'll likely get one just to see if it hits close enough to satisfy me.

>>10780006
Dark color. As the anon above mentioned, it could very well not be a whiskey. I assume it was because that's usually what my father in law has on hand.

Only thing I can say about it is that flavor and that the bottle was similar to the bottles that 1921 Tequila comes in, being somewhat squat and square and with fairly deep engravings. The bottle was dark and had gold labeling.
