I worked in the food court up until very recently, we have a factory in Seattle where the dogs are made and then shipped to various warehouses. They are no longer kosher, which may be the reason they taste different, aside from the change in production facility. You'll notice that every Costco's main aisle is shaped like a horseshoe, and there's a wall between the entrance and exit door even though they're next to eachother. More than ninety percent of the people who enter a Costco follow this specific path around the store (see dotted line in pic related), which merchandisers revolve item placement around to ensure people walk by every single one of the highest profit margin items.
Costco is designed to be a one-way flow store, just like the gas station.
Also you may notice that paper products and sundries, the department which makes the most sales, are in the back.

For the most part yes, the main aisle and general locations of the departments are kept under fairly strict compliance, so the steel and aisle layout is largely the same. Most everything along that main aisle is considered a show floor, and is going to be split between corporate's plans to drive sales regionally, and the store's merchandising manager's discretion based on the needs of the community. There's a ton of community outreach involved in any Costco.

The animals are killed differently in a Kosher slaughterhouse. Not the blood draining shit, I think that’s pretty standard these days, but during a Kosher slaughter the animal just has its throat cut, they’re not stunned first. They also have to cut the throat a certain way and sever the trachea, arteries and esophagus, and use a specific kind of knife. It’s all meaningless nonsense of course, but it’s quite involved. Goes way beyond the blessing, you’d have to have special procedures, facilities and staff (basically necessitating an entire kosher slaughterhouse). It’s a complete racket, but for some reason I think the meat tastes better. Probably just some sort of placebo.

I don't really consider where I live the big city, but I've never really seen any places with soda dispensers not offer just plain soda water. I think it would be a good business decision since people would still have to pay for the drink but they aren't using the syrup.

You can see each soda has the normal dispenser in this pic but the one for Twist has an arrow pointing to another small white button that just says "soda". Some people think it's to dispense the type of sweet soda it's on but it just gives soda water. Double check next time you go to make sure you didn't miss it.

Figure it out.’ That’s all I really needed. By the way, if you raised (the price) to $1.75, it would not be that big of a deal. People would still buy (it). But it’s the mindset that when you think of Costco, you think of the $1.50 hot dog (and soda).

>“What we figured out we could do is build our own hot dog-manufacturing plant (in Los Angeles) and make our own Kirkland Signature hot dogs. Now we are doing so much hot dog business that we’ve opened up another plant in Chicago.

That's the CEO saying that before making their production in house the hot dogs were for some time sold at loss.

>Research also shows that cattle aspirate (inhale) blood into the lungs during Kosher and halal slaughter. This can vary from 36% to 69% (Gregory et al, 2008). The cattle were restrained in an upright position. The author has also observed aspiration of blood during Kosher and halal slaughter. It is the author’s opinion that aspiration of blood is more likely to be a serious welfare problem for cattle, because bovines take longer to lose sensibility (consciousness) compared to sheep (Baldwin, 1971 and Blackmore, 1984). This provides more time for cattle to aspirate blood compared to sheep.

In the absolute best of circumstances pain is minimized, but it's still more traumatic than stunning especially for cattle. It takes about 10 seconds for some animals to become unconscious after having their throat cut but it can take minutes for others, and it's still longer than the instant it takes when using a stunning method.
