Conventional wisdom is that microwaving food is a shortcut that is always inferior to freshly cooking it, but there are so many ways to cook food: baking, sear, braising, grilling, sauteing, roasting, boiling, pan frying, deep frying, stewing, simmering, steaming, broiling, etc.

Is there really not any meal in the world that tastes best cooked by microwave? Surely the unique heating properties offered by penetrating atomic excitement offer some niche over traditional conduction heating.

If you want to melt some chocolate or cheese microwaving can be awesome.

I prefer my bagel bites microwaved over baked, but that's not exactly cooking.

If you want to warm a sandwich but don't really want toasted bread, microwaving it can work. Especially if you want to really melt some cheese on that shit.

Um... Idk, soup? Like heating soup that's already cooked??

I wish microwave companies would stop with this fuckin shit. They already burn my popcorn with the popcorn button.

How would they know how many slices of pizza I'm reheating to begin with?

I use the microwave to cook rice and oatmeal, and steam vegetables. Works fine for that and even saves time because the rice is done faster in the microwave than on the stove. I don't think I would use it for more than that. Although I've seen chefs use microwaves to make individual sized cakes.

Microwaves might be the best for reheating rice from the fridge. Stovetop basically requires making fried rice or the like, while microwaved it's more similar to before

Home microwave suck. When I moved into my new apartment I put off getting a microwave and got a hot pot instead. They boil water quicker and hotter, you can use the steam they make to heat food, cook rice and pasta in them, and a 2 quart one is about 10 dollar,1 quart one around 5.

As far as meats microwaves are always going to be a letdown. They just can't get food hot enough for browning to take place which will leave anything tasting lackluster.

Sure, there are ways to serve food that don't involve getting any kind of sear/browning but those techniques have to compensate by introducing flavor in other ways that I'm not sure are particularly applicable to a microwave. You could use it for poaching or steaming but honestly what would be the point? I don't think it would be easier than on the stove.

I'm not one of those dorks that pretends I'm too good to use a microwave though. It's useful for melting butter and similar tasks. I also normally microwave leftovers. With something like reheating a soup/stew/curry using a microwave can save on dishes without being worse than if you had reheated it on the stove. For reheating other meals it's just convenient and saves on cleanup. Those of us who aren't NEET don't necessarily have the time or inclination to optimize the quality of reheated leftovers.

Microwaves are best for reheating soups and other liquidy foods. I'm not gonna put my block of frozen soup in a saucepan and heat it up that way.

Just gonna nuke it

Baked potatoes work well imo

Most microwaves seem to have you input more data when you select those buttons from what I've seen. So they have you enter how many slices, which gets you close I guess.

Steaming vegetables might be one thing that's strictly best done with a microwave. Making water evaporate is what microwaves do really good.
