I recommend using a little bit of mayo on one side of the bread and toast it with the mayo-side upside down to make a thin crust with the mayo

What am i supposed to do, send the crusts to Africa? That would be way too expensive and they would be inedible before they arrived anyway.

Make croutons, or use them to bread something by crushing after dry, or have them with soft boiled eggs, or bread pudding, or worst case feed them to birds.

I like mine browned, but only to the point that the bread is still somewhat chewy. 2-3 minutes in my toaster usually gets them to the point I like.

My usual go-to for toppings is a little bit of butter and a thin spread of jelly or jam. If my local farmer's market is selling it, I also like to get some honey and use a thin spread of that instead of the butter/jam combo.
