Only five days since inoculating rye Berry grain with liquid culture of pink oyster and already some white mycelium developing ---> anyone on here growing mushrooms or grown them in the past? Share experiences and ask questions. I hope to grow lions mane next but this is my first time growing so I decided to start with the easiest basic strain.

Did you make the culture yourself or buy it--an if so, where?

I did one of those kits, and it did turn out pretty well. Just basic oyster mushrooms, but they were damn tasty when I cooked with them. I think the most interesting part was watching them grow...well, produce fruiting bodies, I guess.

Anything that doens't use photosynthesis to survive shouldn't be considered food. Fungi are rot, not edible.

I grew shrooms when I was a kid. Used if i recall some type of rice wheat or husk. Worked well. Working sterile was the hardest part of it.

>Anything that doens't use photosynthesis to survive shouldn't be considered food.
Clearly arbitrary line. As childish as saying you hate X because it reminds you of Y.

>Fungi are rot,
Literally true-ish

>not edible.
Literally false. Thousands of years disproving this, you're retarded, sorry. Also, the way you write is reminiscent of a certain orange capitalist. This makes me think you idolize him like a certain board does. Anything you care to tell us?

This is a pretty ignorant viewpoint considering our best medicines are derived from mushrooms and several of the have great flavor while serving as medicines we can consume regularly.
Agaricus Bisporus which is portobellos, white button, and crimini mushrooms should not be consumed because it is toxic, however lions mane, maitake, oyster, shiitake, etc are ingrained in cultural use by the chinese and many other successful cultures in terms of traditional medicine.
Also fungi with fruiting bodies are often phototropic like humans.
Also photosynthesis doesn't really mean much in terms of something being nutritious, a large portion of vegetables humans consume contain anti-nutrients which block absorption and simple carbohydrates and sugars drain humans of vitamins and minerals --> most health problems are owes to a deficiency in vitamins or minerals
Id recommend doing some research because you can really potentially hurt yourself by holding yourself back by what nature has to give you. You can take care of your own body while taking care of nature, fungi are the very source of life in nature as they are the foundation for plant life and all living communities on earth with exception to maybe antarctica

The substrate bags are best for gourmet species and are used by all bulk growers as well, however I agree for cubensis a monotub is a great choice

OP here, overnight tremendous growth of the mycelium took place. Will post tomorrow if it progresses at the same pace over the next 24 hours

Hello, friend.
It seems the GNUta has called us here.
I have no information regarding your post, therefore I will upload an unrelated image in order to leverage your thread on this board, commonly known as a "bump".

don't get cocky, in the first stages, mycelium and certain molds can look very similar since they're both fungi. Give it a week and check it again, also always be as sterile as possible, this shit is annoying to keep clean. I sterilized a tub with alcohol and a UV sterilizer light for 3 days straight and still got contamination, always keep things clean in a still air environment.

Yea ive probably sterilized my lungs from how much rubbing alcohol ive been using
Ive been worried it might be cobweb mold from how fast its grown in the last 24 hours but it IS pink oyster which is an aggressive colonizer and cobweb is generally gray and more fabric like but there are more molds than cobweb to worry about regardless

not surprisingly, i've done mushrooms maybe 35 times in my life

the research that has come out in the last 10 years is amazing.

Haha I think Id like to strike conversation with anyone in disagreement, the issue is they decide that anything that doesn't match what they say is false or some other bullshit and since its an anonymous image board they start showing symptoms of some mild mental disorder. Its unfortunate that neoliberalism and vegans have struck this site and very much so this board

Shroomsupply and out-grow sell substrate and grain... shroomsupply is extremely affordable so I would recommend just having it done by people whose livelihoods depend on doing it right. If you like the results then start making your own substrate but for me this is my first time and I don't have a pressure cooker atm so this made the most sense.

Where are you getting your info that A. bisporus is toxic? It contains some amounts of Agaritine but that is pretty much eliminated with cooking

What I was asking is, did you just inoculate the substrate directly with the spore solution in the syringe or did you generate a culture on a petri dish or somewhere first, and then inoculate the substrate with the pregrown culture

Did you grind up brown rice with vermiculite for the substrate? Nice mycelial growth. Have you done this before? Dealt with much contamination?
