I live here, and it’s even disappointing when you go to a ‘fancy’ fish and chip place. You have to go to a regular chippy on a street corner if you want the GOAT fish and chip experience.
Battered Sausage is also the best side order.

>>And of drinking beer he had not been taught.

And you can get a decent New York slice all over America, plus there's plenty of Italian restaurants in America making good Neapolitan pizza. There's certainly way more bad pizza in America than good pizza, but you certainly don't have to go Italy for good pizza.

I'm from the US, grew up partially in Buffalo and partly in FL. There is a strong Catholic Friday fish fry tradition in both parts of the country. I've also been to London and done fish there, and it's really no different. It's not a complex dish to make. As long as you use a good fish, and make a good batter (which basically means not being a retard) that's really all there is to it. I mean, they are both good, pretty much equal, there really isn't a lot of variation in such a simple dish.

Granted this was 2003, but in Rome you can get pizza by weight at any corner vendor that has decent toppings for 3 Euro if you aren’t in a tourist trap last I checked. You just need to avoid the tourist traps. My “litmus test” is to see how much a street vendor is getting away with charging for a coke or bottle of water. If it seems ridiculous, then the places around there probably will be too, because rent is probably high.
