>Some are hold overs of a less advanced age. Meat and animal products are one of these things.
Utter nonsense. While I do agree that most Westerners consume an unhealthy amount of meat, suggesting that people should become vegan is beyond idiotic. For starters, most of the world doesn't have the luxury of being able to afford a vegan diet. Just because you can enter a fancy supermarket and buy whatever veggie you want regardless of growing season doesn't mean that everyone has that option. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have an army of smoke-belching ships and trucks to get them a world-class selection of ingredients year-round. Furthermore, many nutrients are far more bioavailable from animal sources. If you are concerned about health you would be an idiot not to take advantage of this. And finally, a scheme where some animal foods are incorporated into one's diet is by far the most efficient method of farming. Animals can be fed inedible (to humans) crop waste. Animal manure makes an excellent fertilizer. The old fashioned system of small farms in which people ate mostly vegetables supplemented with small amounts of meat is by far the most efficient.

And that is why people who want to see humanity progress are working to make that a reality. The biggest hurdle to get over is the idea that humans need meat, or that it is healthy for them. Just like people in the bronze age thought they needed animal sacrifies to make the gods happy, we can teach them that such sacrifices are not needed for humans themselves to thrive.

It is a psychological barrier at this point, we have all the tools necessary to make the world vegan, we just need to educate people that it is the best way.

>The biggest hurdle to get over is the idea that humans need meat
No. The biggest hurdle to get over is that many people worldwide can't afford fruits or vegetables grown out-of-season to be shipped to them from thousands of miles away.

It will always be cheaper to eat a pig fed with local scraps during the winter than it will be to ship in an equivalent amount of nutrition from the other side of the planet where it IS growing season. And even if that became cheap, it's still costly in terms of pollution.

>>It is a psychological barrier at this point
Yeah, inside your head, apparently. Eating small amounts of animal products will always be both healthier and more efficent than consuming an entirely vegan diet, yet your strange psychological barrier won't let you see that. You only see "muh 6 hamburgers a day" and "muh 100% perfect vegan". You fail utterly at seeing everything in between.

Utter nonsense.

For starters, making somethig illegal doesn't get rid of it. I.e. "War on drugs".
Second, it would be impossible for a company to lie about their supposed product. Scientific tests can easily identify lab vs. wild meat and that would be one hell of a lawsuit. "Real" only needs to be a certain percentage of the real deal, differentiated from product to product as set by the FDA. A lot of products actually contain "flavoring" and a solid substitute, like tofu. You're pretty brainless, anon.

What function does a Michael Kors handbag from a boutique serve over one from TJmaxx at a third of the value? More appropriately, what does a Louis Vuitton have over a generic? Youre trying to apply a purely utilitarian outlook on something that is already a luxury item in most of the world.
