That's why you inspect the potatoes and peel or cut out the shit bits. But you don't peel them completely (if you can help it).

>bruised parts
>anything "budding" off the potato
>areas where the skin/flesh has been cut/punctured (it'll probably look brownish)

Also, if a potato is"budding" too much and/or looks green, just throw it away

I don't peel my stuff but you seem to be in denial that water doesn't really clean things, it just makes things wet.

Congrats now the dirt and shit jammed into the skin of your veg is wet. At what point did you actually clean it? Peeling is the only way to 100% avoid grit and feces and dirty third world hand cooties.

I generally don't peel potatoes because potato peel is delicious, but I notice a different, dirtier taste and texture when I don't peel carrots. Unpeeled carrots are fine raw, but when I cook them unpeeled they just taste worse in my opinion.

Just throw the whole carrot in. Don't bother peeling it, you'll just remove the nutrients. Otherwise you're going to be a fat little piggy.

What, do you not scrub it with a brush or a scrub? You don't have to go full steel wool on it but your hands and fingers don't fully do the job.

Branching is used for wilting the outer skin so it can be peeled more easily. It works for plenty of things, including pearl onions.
