Well, you *can* approach cooking as a specific branch of chemistry. It's not a very practical approach but it works, more or less.
If you take food engineering courses, you'll have fuckloads of chemistry. You need the talent and the "artsy" approach to make food tasty, but you need good scientific background to make it properly nutritious.
